May Giveaway Day! or, who doesn’t love free stuff?
I’m happy to be participating in my first May Giveaway Day with Sew Mama Sew! If you’ve been reading this blog, you know that destashing is one of my crafting goals for the year.
I’m actually offering TWO giveaways (drum roll, please).
Giveaway 1: Beginner Knitting Kit (2 gently used DVDs, a pair of knitting needles, and a skein of yarn)
Through a series of bizarre happenings, I came into possession of two gently used beginner knitter DVDs, I Can’t Believe I’m Knitting! in Motion and I Can’t Believe I’m Knitting Cables, Bobbles, & Lace in Motion. Both feature Melissa Leapman. I am eager to find these a home with a beginner somewhere so yes, I will ship internationally. (I think the DVDs are probably encoded for Region 1 though.) To add to the kit, I’m including a pair of my Underground Crafter bamboo knitting needles (U.S. size 9) and a skein of Bernat Lana. Lana is discontinued but it is a nice 100% wool yarn. I chose a light color for ease of viewing your stitches.
Giveaway 2: Free in-person crochet or knitting lesson (in New York City only)
My second giveaway is intangible so it cannot be photographed. I will give the winner a one hour lesson in crochet or knitting in New York City. Unfortunately, since I do not have a car, we are limited to meeting somewhere accessible by public transportation (sorry Staten Island!). You can check out my teaching credentials here. I will also include an Underground Crafter crochet hook or pair of knitting needles when we meet. Please note that I work full-time so we would have to meet up in the evening or on a weekend. I have some student testimonials on my website which you can check out here.
My giveaways are my way of “paying it forward”* by helping someone else learn to knit or crochet, or to improve their skills. I love yarn crafts and hope you will too!
You can enter either giveaway by leaving a comment with the following info:
- Tell me which giveaway you are interested in winning.
- Give me your email address or a link back to your website so I can track you down if you win
. - Write a short note about why you’d like to win the giveaway you’ve selected. If you are entering Giveaway 2, please let me know whether you’d be interested in a crochet or knitting lesson and the general topic (e.g., beginner, granny squares, cables, pattern reading, etc.).
You can enter on behalf of someone else (as a gift) as long as you can provide me with their contact information once you win. Sign up by 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, 5/25 and I will choose one winner at random for each giveaway by May 27. I will post about both winners here on the blog and also will email each winner. Good luck and thanks for stopping by!
*I have never watched more than about 15 commercial-interrupted minutes of Pay It Forward, so excuse me if I am using this expression improperly.

I’d love the beginner knitting set, my mum taught me when I was 12 but I have long since forgotten and would love to refresh!

Maybe I can find my way to a lesson this way!
Bonnie
I would like to win the first giveaway…I am past that stage in knitting…but I have been teaching my daughter to knit, and this would be a great gift for her (she’s 9)!
I would like to learn to knit, or maybe my niece would. We’ll see if I win if I want to give it for her bday (in December!).
i’d love a chance to win the beginner knitter set… i’ve been a quilter for a while now, and i still drool over the knitted lovely things i see, and have no way of making any of my own… gooberific@yahoo.com
Oh wow, that is so nice of you to offer a lesson! I don’t live in New York though, so that wouldn’t work for me. I would love to win the DVD set though! I have tried learning to knit from a book before and I just couldn’t understand it, so maybe a video would be easier. I am in the UK, but I have a Region 1 dvd player, so no problems with that.
My son has been asking me to teach him to knit! So of course I would love the DVDs!! Thanks for the giveaway!
i would have to pick #1 since I live no where near new york!
I’ve been wanting to learn to knit for awhile, so I would love the beginner set. Thanks for the giveaway!!
I’d love to learn to knit, and I happen to be in NYC until late June!
I would pick #1. I really want to learn to knit! I have tried a few times but can’t quite get it…but I am a hands on visual learner so dvds sound good. Thank you for the chance to win.
Thanks everyone for stopping by! It is great to see so many people who would pass their giveaway along as a gift.
I would love the beginning knitting set as I am a beginner… Thank you so much!
I’d love to win the beginner knitting set. I learned years ago but a refresher would be great. And unfortunately since I live in Southern California I can’t really make it to NYC to learn from you in person
I would love to win the DVD/beginner set. I want to knit dolls and stuffed animals for the little ones in my life. I am intimidated by knitting, but I would love to give it a try.
I’d love to win #2. Marie gave me my real first lessons in crocheting and now I am absolutely in love with it. My skills are not quite what I would like them to be, but I am crocheting my first blanket and pocketbook. I just don’t seem to be able to get the hang of the Granny Squares which i would love to conquer the task. Thanks!
Ooh, an in-person knitting lesson sounds wonderful! I haven’t had the discipline to properly learn on my own, so this would be great for me.
Thanks for your generosity!
#1 I would love to learn to knit. It has been on my to-do list for a while.
I would LOVE a lesson, but I’m in Mass and it is too far…bummer. So, I would like to be entered into giveaway #1 as I started knitting and then got confused, but would LOVE to really learn!

I would love to win the beginner kit. I am a quilter, and my twin sister is a knitter, and we both long to learn the others’ craft. Unfortunately, we never seem to be together long enough for me to learn from her – when we are together we have kids and meals to cook and just no time for that. But on my own… Thanks for the chance to win.
I’d love to win #1. I learned how to knit years ago from my mom but a refresher would be wonderful, and unfortunately since I live in Los Angeles a trip out to NYC to get a lesson from you in person isn’t really feasible, so a DVD will do fine =^)
whoops, I could have sworn that the post I made last night didn’t go through, but I see it now. You can delete this entry since it’s a repeat!
It is nice to have so many visitors. Too bad more of you aren’t in New York, since I am confident that I’m a better teacher than a video
. But, as videos go, these two are pretty helpful.
I’d so love to win the prize #1 !! I’d love an in person lesson but NY is a little too far, sadly. My 9 yr old can knit better than I can so this would be great to win ! Thanks for the giveaway !
i would love to win giveaway 1. would love to win as have never won one before
thanks for the giveaway

What a great giveaway! I’d love #1 the beginning kit. Thanks for participating in SMS Giveaway Day.
I would like to win prize number one only because I won’t be in the New York area anytime soon. I’m a beginner knitter. Actually, if there was a category before beginner, I would be that. I need help! DVDs could help. Some new materials could also help.
Cheers!
I would love to win #1 – I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit, and while I successfully taught myself basic crochet, my attempts at knitting haven’t worked very well so far. Maybe this is the answer!
I would love the beginning knitter set. I’ve wanted to learn how to knit for a long time but have never been able to figure out the tricky diagrams in order to teach myself. A DVD sounds like it would be much easier to learn from. Thanks so much for the chance to win!
Welcome! And thanks for entering the giveaway.
I’d love the beginning knitter set. I’d take the lesson, but I’m far from NYC.
my r.a. during my first semester of college attempted to teach me how to knit, but at the time i was more of an ‘instant gratification’ type of person, so i quit before i had the chance to not suck at it. however, now that i’m a parent and a sewist, i find that my patience level has increased dramatically, and if i had a kit with some instructions, i would be able to legitimately learn how to do it again, and not just give up when it stinks.
thanks for the chance to win, i really hope it’s me!
I would be interested in the DVD’s and knitting needles and yarn. I need to get back into the swing of things (and keep up with my niece, who is a whiz-bang beginning knitter!). Thanks for the opportunity. ~Gerrie~ (camg12three@aol.com)
I’d love to win the knitting set! I just learned to knit this spring, and I’m still working on basics… Casting on, binding off, knit stitch, purl stitch. There’s so much to learn! I’d love to have a chance to grow, but since I’m in the South, an in-person lesson wouldn’t work. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Thanks for the opportunity. I will love to win the number 1, I’m not so a beginner knitter but I can use some help with cables, I had never made one (I have try, but unsuccessfully).
Thanks for the chance.
I’d love to win #1 – the beginning knitting. My mom taught ,me a few years ago, but I never got the hang of it and gave up. I’d love to try again.

I’d love to win the first set for my future sister-in-law. I’d teach her to knit in person, but she’s going to school eight hours away. Thank you so much!
The beginner knitter set would be great for me – I’m such a hapless newbie!! o.0 Thanks for the opportunity to try for this!
I’m visiting from New Zealand so unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to meet you for Giveaway 2 …. but I would love to win the beginners knitting pack. I have been having fun making simple projects for my sons but I think it’s time to get brave and try some new techniques. Your gifts might just give me the push I need, so thanks for this chance!
Given that I am Down Under and have no plans to be in NY anytime soon, I guess I would chose no 1. I am a self taught knitter of about 8 months and have a lot to learn. Those DVDs would be a great help as I am starting to get a yearning to learn cables and lace patterns scare me.
I’d like number one. I’m in Philly and a tad too far for a lesson. I can rock a crochet hook but my knitting is so tight. I learned from books so maybe I need to actually see the DVD to make it click in my head. Thanks for the chance.
I would love the chance to win Giveaway 1. I am hoping to learn to knit this year and this would be perfect!
I’d love prize one! (and I think it’s AWESOME that you’re offering a knitting lesson!!)
I would love number 1 – I can’t knit beyond k1/p1! I need help
Oh I so need this!!! I got knitting needles for christmas and couldn’t knit!!! Maybe these dvd’s would help!
I would love the Beginner Knitting Kit. I can do knits, purls, cast on and bind off, but would love to know more – and improve on what I do know.
I am intersted in the first giveaway. I just picked up knitting again this last weekend, after a 40 year hiatus. My two daughters prodded me into teaching them, and I am barely one step ahead of ‘em. Any additional help would be very appreciated. Thank you so much for participating! tracey (underline) sconyers (at) yahoodotcom
I would love to learn how to knit. I can crochet, though I’m just an advanced beginner there. I’m a visual learner, so it’s hard for me to learn by a book or pattern. I have to have someone “show” me, so the dvds would be AWESOME!
This is truly a great giveaway. The second one is even more precious because it is your time.
But alas, I live all the way in Kentucky and not even capable of meeting up. Thank you!
lusive.tracy(at)gmail(dot)com
i’d love to win prize #1. i’d love to win in order to learn to kint my 3 boys cool things.
thank you for the giveaway.

katz.gali(at)gmail.com
Oh! I so wish I was in NYC so I could win the in-person crochet lesson. But oh well! Thanks for the giveaway!
What a gorgeous giveaway! I’m a brand new knitter, so would love to win prize #1
I would love giveaway #1. I tried to knit a scarf once, but it ended up being a dish cloth…I got frustrated and quit, but I still want to learn. Thanks for the chance to win!

#1 I need to learn…
This is really the most thoughtful giveaway I’ve seen! I would love to win the first (actually I’d prefer the 2nd if I lived in NY!) I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit but I’ve talked myself out of it because I think it’s too complicated, or I don’t want to invest in the materials and then fail. So this would be perfect!
I would love the knitting kit.
I’m in NJ and would love either thing! Brand new knitter, so it’d be a very beginner lesson.
