WIP Wednesday – The slowest growing baby blanket ever
I have not made much progress on my baby blanket this week. Yesterday, I chaperoned a group of students attending a conference and brought it with me. I imagined that I would crochet for three hours. But there were computers at the conference center and instead I found myself drawn into entering Sew, Mama, Sew! giveaways on other people’s blogs!
My home crocheting in the past week has been focused on my current top secret project for publication. Nonetheless, I have added a few rows to this baby blanket during my commute to and from work.
I’ve gotten some comments on the previous posts about the pattern. I’m using a variation on the fantail stitch from my trusty Reader’s Digest Ultimate Sourcebook of Knitting and Crochet Stitches.
I will admit that I did not start with a gauge swatch. (Egads! My students must be shaking their fingers at me right now.) I just chained until it looked “long enough” and then started. This is an easier way to crochet on the subway, where it is relatively difficult to accurately measure gauge
.

Isn’t it frustrating when things just don’t seem to grow – it seems to be a theme this WIPW
It looks lovely though!
Yep it is annoying, Nat. Luckily other projects which haven’t been photographed are moving faster!
I love those colors together, what a beautiful baby blanket!
Thanks so much Affiknitty! I try to stay away from the standard pale pink, baby blue, etc.
The blanket looks awesome so far! I’m excited to find out more about the secret project, too.
Tami, I must say it is harder keeping designs for publication secret now that I have a blog. I want to show people the cool things I’m working on – especially on the days when I can’t think of anything else to write about! – but the publishers generally want the projects to remain secret until the release date.
We are distraction twins!
Giveaway day totally derailed a lot of my crafing plans on Monday, too. So many amazing things!
And I’m loving the blanket.
Hahaha Kathleen. I am a big fan of “free stuff” but normally I wouldn’t spend multiple hours searching blogs for giveaways. Thanks – I stopped by your blog and love your collection of food.
