F.O. Friday – Fantail baby blanket
After several weeks of posting about my tortoise-like progress on the fantail baby blanket, I finally finished it over the long weekend and am now posting my first F.O. Friday with Tami’s Amis.
I took the pictures on a chess table in Riverside Park.
I’m glad to finally be finished. It seems that people I know have babies in clusters, so I will go a few years without making any baby gifts and then will have about four to make in the same season.
The blanket was worked in rows using my variation of the fantail stitch from the Reader’s Digest Ultimate Sourcebook of Knitting and Crochet Stitches. I worked the borders in the round. Since I only had a small amount of the variegated yarn left at that point, I made the first border in a simple single crochet (working 3 in each corner). The second border alternated between single crochet and chain stitches to conserve yarn. I worked three double crochets into each corner.

I like it! It reminds me of flowers in a field.
Thanks Calophi! I hadn’t seen it that way until you mentioned it. I did pick the colors so they would look spring-y, so evoking flowers is good!
It’s gorgeous and I love the edging! I agree with Calophi. Totally looks like flowers in a field!
Thanks Tami! I had to keep it simple because I didn’t want to buy another skein of the variegated yarn
.
I like the colors and texture. What a pretty baby blanket!
Thanks Affiknitty!
I can definitely see the “flowers in a field,” too. The stitch texture in the closeup is wonderful, it makes me want to grab my hooks and try a fantail stitch…
Thanks Kathleen. I am a big fantail stitch fan (at least, of my version of it!), so I say go for it!
Wow!!! Truly beautiful.
Thanks Nicky!
