F.O. Friday – Join-As-You-Go Hexagon Baby Blanket *Finally* completed
I’m happy to have a finished object that I can share with everyone this week, and I’m even more happy to say that, after about 2-1/2 months, I am finally done with my join-as-you-go hexagon baby blanket! (You can see my slow progress in these posts about my original inspiration, my yarn haul and my yarn refill, and in these WIP Wednesday updates: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.) In fairness to the blanket, it was not the only thing I worked on during these 10 or so weeks. But it definitely was weighing on my mind the most since the baby it is for was born on Father’s Day.
I actually finished the blanket last Friday at about 11 p.m. (and yes, it was while I was watching The X-Files on Netflix, thank you very much.) I took the pictures last Saturday in Riverside Park. Perhaps I’m getting better at adjusting my camera settings, or perhaps it was just due to the cloudy weather, but for once the colors look fairly accurate.

I was using the leftover project yarn for the borders, and had more of the green since it was only used for 9 hexagons.
I’m thinking of writing up the pattern with a tutorial on the join-as-you-go process.
Don’t forget to stop by Tami’s Amis to check out other F.O. Friday posts!

It looks great, I love the edges
Good choice of border too, I think it really sets the whole thing off nicely.
Thanks, Nat!
Love the blanket and it’s colors, but gotta ask…didn’t you get tired of making the same design over and over? There are quite a few tutorials on the join as you go method already on line if you’re looking for one.
Not really, Sandy. I actually like working with motifs because I can do them on my commute, while watching t.v., etc., since they are so portable. Once I did a few, I could remember the pattern so that made it even easier to carry around.
Love the blanket, and even though the baby was born earlier, baby and Mum will love it.
PLEASE put a pattern and tutorial together for join as you go! PLEASE.
Lol, thanks RugbyMad. I will definitely work on it – perhaps it can be one of my first video projects?
Yes, do write up the pattern with the tutorial! I would totally eventually make this blanket.
Yay, thanks Calophi! I think I will since I’ve gotten some encouragement to do so!
Amazing. This blanket was a huge undertaking, and totally worth it (says me, who didn’t have to join up all those hexagons!). Great colours, great texture, really intriguing non-straight edge…and an extra boost of awesome due to its being finished while you were watching X-Files.
Thanks Kathleen! It wasn’t too hard to join them since that was all done “join-as-you-go” in the last round.
It’s beautiful! The border is really striking!
Thanks Minding My Own Stitches!
Love the arrangement of colour.
I always think it’s nice to be a month or two late with baby gifts, because new parents get given so much stuff immediately after the birth, it must be nice to get something else a little while down the line, once they’ve got used to being parents!
That’s true Tink. Also, now the baby will have already outgrown an entire wardrobe
.
Beautiful! You really must write up the pattern and tutorial.
Thanks Karen! I will get to work on that
.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
Thanks so much Sarah!

Welcome Sharon, and thanks for the kind words.
That turned out wonderfully. I love the sunny colors. It is going to be so loved by both parents and baby.
Thanks so much autumngeisha! It has been mailed off and should arrive to its new owner shortly.
