Competitive stashbusting
My focus since Friday has been on busting stash with Ravellenic Games projects. So far, I’ve made a lot of progress towards finishing another ribbed beanie for my Holiday Stashdown Challenge.
I’m using two strands of Moda Dea Tweedle Dee, a discontinued, self-striping, bulky yarn, and size 15 circular needles. This will be sort of a companion to this ribbed beanie I finished a few weeks ago. I have two male cousins (brothers), and I’m sort of sure who is getting what, but not 100% decided yet.
I’m making very slow progress on my first pair of knitted socks.
I’ve found that the metal needles in the small size are bothering my hands. I’m going to try and get a wood or bamboo set today after work and see if that helps me move a little faster.
I’m still reading How To Love Your Job Or Find A New One by Joanna Penn. So far, I’m finding it really helpful. If I can drag myself away from the Ravellenics for a little more time this week, I will probably be able to finish it and share a review.

Your socks are looking good and I love the color of your Modea, great for hats!
Thanks, Tina. I think it is a suitable gender-neutral color for my cousin.
it’s so good to use up stash yarn!!! Your projects look great!!
Thanks, alisa! I’m really trying to shrink my stash down this year.
I just had to click over to the Ravellinics. So FUN!
Welcome, Nancy. I’m having a lot of fun with the Ravellenics so far!
I think I’m using the same needles you are using on my first pair of socks using the magic loop, and I am having a hard time with them too. I’m glad I’m not the only one, I thought it was just the fact that I am a new knitter! I was just listening to a podcast today where they were talking about having the proper needles, and I wish I had more LYS’s to shop at, because I can’t find a set that I really like. I think I am going to order a pair of KP’s new Sunstruck needles though and see if those improve my chances. I think the nickle plated ones I am using are just too slippery for superwash wool.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, Rachel. I’ve used this brand of needles before with the same yarn, but in the small size it feels harder on the hands. I hope you find a better set of needles!
I hate metal needles. As soon as I switched to bamboo life got so much easier. Well, the knitting part anyway!
Hahaha, Tanya. Normally I like metal needles, but with the small size, it just felt like torture on my fingers.
