It seems like everyone wants to flash a bit of gleam, sparkle, glitter, or shine over the holidays. This simple crochet scarf made with a sparkly yarn is the perfect solution!
Yarn for the sample was generously provided by Red Heart.
A few weeks ago, I was working on a guest post for the Red Heart blog called How Do I Decide Which Red Heart Yarn To Use For My Next Project? Although I’ve used most of the longstanding yarns by Red Heart, there were a few new ones that I had yet to try. In the interest of research, I asked Red Heart if they could send me samples of some of those yarns to use. (Is this research a bit like how my mom used to test my ice cream to make sure it tasted good when I was a little kid? Perhaps, but who doesn’t love to play with new yarns?!)
Gleam combines an acrylic base with wrapped metallic threads (in silver, copper, or gold, depending on the yarn colorway). I like that they metallic threads aren’t wrapped evenly, so there are seemingly random glints of light and texture throughout your project.
I knew the Gleam would pair well with a simple stitch pattern that didn’t try to compete with the yarn, so I chose the grit stitch, which I recently used in the Grit Stitch Manicure Roll. The grit stitch is such an easy, beginner-friendly stitch pattern which is also great for when you’re watching your favorite streaming shows or are otherwise distracted.
The Patina colorway with its deep, forest green yarn and gold metallic thread, is just perfect for getting your holiday sparkle on!

What a coincidence you offered this pattern. Yesterday I received a box of yarn I won from Marly Bird and one of the skeins Red Heart sent me was A Touch of Gleam! Will have to give this a try and learn the Grit Stitch
Great news, Chris. Enjoy the yarn.
