This simple pattern features a dimensional flower at the center. It’s one of two squares used in the Picking Flowers Pillow.

Finished Size

  • 6” (15 cm) square.

Materials

  • Red Heart With Love yarn (100% acrylic, 7 oz/198 g/370 yd/338 m) – 1 skein each in 1201 Daffodil (CA), 1502 Iced Aqua (CB) and 1101 Eggshell (CC), or approximately 10 yd (9 m) in CA, 10 yd (9 m) in CB, and 29 yd (26.5 m) in CC in any medium weight yarn.


  • US Size I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Yarn needle.

Gauge

  • 1 square in pattern = 6” (15 cm) square. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.

Abbreviations Used in This Pattern

  • bob – bobble – *Yo, insert hook in st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops; rep from * in same st twice, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook.
  • CA – Color A
  • CB – Color B
  • CC – Color C
  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • rep – repeat
  • sc – single crochet
  • sk – skip
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sp – space
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • tr – treble (triple) crochet
  • yo – yarn over
  • * Repeat the instructions following the asterisk as indicated.
  • () Instructions within parenthesis are worked into indicated stitch or space.
  • [] Repeat instructions between brackets as indicated.

  • Entire project is worked in the round.

Pattern Instructions

  • With CA, ch 4, sk 3 ch, join with sl st to next ch to form ring.
  • Rnd 1: (Wrong Side) Ch 2, [(bob, ch 1) in ring] 5 times, join with sl st to top of first ch 2. Fasten off CA (5 sts + 5 ch-1 sp)
  • Rnd 2: Turn to Right Side (back of bobbles will face you), join CB with sl st to any ch-1 sp, ch 1, beginning in same ch-1 sp [sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, sk bob] 5 times, join with sl st to first sc. (5 sts + 5 ch-3 sp)
  • Rnd 3: [(Sc, hdc, dc, ch 1, dc, hdc, sc) in next ch-3 sp] 5 times. (35 sts – 5 petals)
  • Rnd 4: [Sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, (tr, ch 1, tr) in ch-1 sp, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st] 5 times, join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off CB. (45 sts – 5 petals)
  • Rnd 5: Working behind petals, join CC with sl st to any skipped bob on Rnd 2, ch 3 (counts as dc, here and throughout), 3 dc in same st, *5 dc in next skipped st on Rnd 2; rep from * around, join with sl st top of first ch 3. (24 sts)
  • Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st; rep from * around, join with sl st to top of first ch 3. (36 sts)
  • Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around, join with sl st to first sc. (48 sts)
  • Rnd 8: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 4 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, dc in next 4 sts,** (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st; rep from * twice, rep from * to ** once, 2 dc in first st, ch 1, join with sc to top of first ch 3 (counts as ch 1, here and throughout) to join. (60 sts + 4 ch-2 sp)
  • Rnd 9: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, *ch 1, sk 2 sts, dc in next 5 sts, ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in next 5 sts, ch 1, sk 2 sts,** (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp; rep from * around, ending last rep at **, 3 dc in first ch-2 sp, ch 1, join with sc to top of first ch 3. Fasten off CB. (64 sts + 4 ch-2 sp + 12 ch-1 sp)
  • With yarn needle, weave in ends.
