About the Picking Flowers Pillow

I was inspired to design this pillow to go along with the summer activity of picking flowers. I love to crochet pillow covers because they are relatively small projects and can really change a room. I prefer to use button closures because then you can easily remove the cover to wash or to change up your decor seasonally.

I used two of my crochet motif patterns, the Coming Up Roses Square and the Forget-me-not Square, but you could replace the squares with your favorite 6″ (15 cm) square patterns. (Of course, if you do, your yardage may be different and you also will have to make adjustments to the borders. If you are an adventurous type, though, it will be fun!)

After first square on each panel is crocheted, each additional square is joined to panel in final round using the “join-as-you-go” seaming method. Border is then crocheted in the round on each panel. Panels are seamed together with slip stitch join. A button hole flap is crocheted on the back panel in rows. Buttons are sewn onto the front panel to finish.
  • If you prefer to join squares using another method, make 4 Coming Up Roses Squares and 4 Forget-me-not Squares. Join using your preferred method following placement chart. Continue to Panel Border instructions.
  • A join-as-you-go tutorial is available here: How To Connect Granny Squares with Join-As-You-Go.
