Book Review
50 Fabulous Crochet Squares is a pattern collection by four designers (Jean Leinhauser, Rita Weiss, Janie Herrin, and James G. Davis). The squares in this collection are made in medium weight yarn and are available in a variety of sizes, including
- 5″ squares – 1 pattern,
- 6″ squares – 1 pattern,
- 6.5″ squares – 2 patterns,
- 7″ squares – 14 patterns,
- 7.5″ squares – 5 patterns,
- 8″ squares – 10 patterns,
- 8.5″ squares – 3 patterns,
- 9″ squares – 4 patterns,
- 9.5″ squares – 1 pattern,
- 10″ squares – 2 patterns,
- 11″ squares – 1 pattern,
- 11.5″ squares – 1 pattern, and
- 12″ squares – 4 patterns.
These patterns are mostly large, intricate squares designed for an experienced granny square crocheter who wants to work on layered, lacy, or otherwise interesting patterns. Each pattern includes a large, flat-lay photo, a list of colors being used, and a pattern written with U.S. pattern abbreviations. The collection also includes a key to pattern abbreviations in the back and a key to comparing U.S. to U.K. pattern abbreviations. The book lays flat so it is easy to crochet while reading a pattern.
You can find pictures of all 50 patterns in the book on its Ravelry source page here.
50 Fabulous Crochet Squares is ideal for an intermediate crocheter who wants to move beyond basic granny squares and who likes working on larger motifs. Because the collection doesn’t include any instructional material, it isn’t suitable for a beginning crocheter. The large pictures and text make it easier to follow along with the pattern than some other booklets that include multiple patterns on the same page to save space. (Each pattern in this book is written over one to two pages.)

50 fabulous crochet squares
I would be happy to win any of these great books. But my #1 choice is 50 Fabulous Granny Squares. I love Leisure Arts! Thank you for the opportunity to win one of these books.
I am quite new to crochet and I am more interested in learning the advanced techniques, so Beginner’s Guide to Crochet Motifs seems like the right book for me! Thank you for running a lovely giveaway.
I don’t have any of these books, so I would be happy to win either of these books 🙂
I’d be thrilled to win any of the books, but I’m most excited for Rainbow Crocheted Afghans by Amanda Perkins
99 Crochet Granny Squares (any of the books would be a wonderful prize). Thank you for your reviews.
Oh! These are all great! Thank-you!
I’ve got this book. I love “building block” books, ones that I can use to make my own creations. This one of those. Whoever wins it will love it, too.
