Crochet Pattern: No-Sew Huggable Pal with Classic Beret and Window Pane Scarf

I’ve been a huge fan of amigurumi since childhood, when my grandmother would crochet her famous bears for the whole family. Once I had mastered crochet, I tried my hand at amigurumi, but found that I didn’t love the sewing aspect. Today’s pattern for the No-Sew Huggable Pal is crocheted in one piece with no sewing! I originally designed this project for Fairfield World, but I’m including some accessories for your pal in this post: a classic beret and lacy scarf.

This portly pal is extra soft and cuddly because I used Poly-Fil Supreme® Ultra Plush Fiber Fill to stuff it. In addition to being crocheted in one piece (with no sewing, did I mention that??!!), it sits upright on its own with outstretched arms just waiting for a hug.

It has a little button tail, too. For the hat, I decided on a classic beret because it looks a bit jaunty, don’t you think? As for the scarf, I figure this pal would be plenty warm in any weather, so I decided to make a lacy, window pane scarf. Both accessories work up really quickly and are great finishing touches for your pal.

  • US Size F-5/3.75 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge. (I used a Clover Amour hook.)
  • US Size I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge. (I used a Clover Amour hook.)
  • Yarn needle.

  • 2 – 8 oz (227 g) packages of Poly-Fil Supreme® Ultra Plush Fiber Fill. (If you plan to make lots of stuffed toys, the 40 oz (1,134 g) package is more economical.)
  • Pair of safety eyes.

Gauge

  • Huggable Pal: Through Rnd 10 = 4” (10 cm) diameter with smaller hook in pattern for body. Exact gauge is not critical for this project but stitches should be small so that fiber filling doesn’t show.

  • Classic Beret: Through Rnd 5 = 4” (10 cm) diameter with larger hook in pattern for beret. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.

  • When choosing colors, note that CA is the main color. CB is used for the foot and hand pads, the front of the ears, and the muzzle. CC is used for the muzzle.
  • The project is crocheted in the round in unjoined spirals. Stitch marker 1 is used to track the position of each Round and should be moved up each Round unless otherwise directed.
