The fourth and final project in the Choose Your Destination Crochet Along is the Quick and Easy Crochet Shawl pattern! This simple triangular shawl pattern works up quickly in a bulky yarn to make a fast shawl that can also be worn as a cuddly scarf. As with all the patterns in this crochet along, it can be changed up for different seasonal looks by switching the yarn weight and using an appropriate hook.

Back in 2014, the folks at Prime Publishing were launching I Like Crochet. I designed a series of seasonal crochet triangle shawl patterns for them, and this was the winter shawl.

Crochet Pattern by Underground Crafter
This simple triangle shawl pattern works up quickly in a bulky yarn. This shawl doubles as a cuddly scarf when wrapped around your neck.

Finished Size
- Adult: 73” (185.5 cm) across wingspan x 13” (33 cm) spine depth.
Materials
- Patons Classic Wool Roving yarn (100% wool, 3.5 oz/100 g, 120 yd/109 m) – 3 skeins in 77709 Cherry (MC) and 1 skein in CC, or approximately 345 yd (31.5 m) in MC and 105 yd (96 m) in CC in any bulky weight yarn.
- US Size L-11/8 mm crochet hook, or any size needed to obtain gauge.
- Yarn needle.
- Stitch markers.
Gauge
- 10 sts x 6 rows = 4” (10 cm) in shawl pattern before blocking. Exact gauge is not required for this pattern.
Abbreviations Used in This Pattern
- BL – back loop only
- CC – Contrast Color
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- dc2tog – double crochet 2 stitches together (decrease) – [Yo, insert hook in next st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops] twice, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook. A tutorial for this stitch is available here.
- dc3tog – double crochet 3 stitches together (decrease) – [Yo, insert hook in next st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops] 3 times, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook. The Lindsey Life has a helpful video tutorial for this stitch here.
- FPdc – front post double crochet – Yo, insert hook from front around back to front of st in previous round, yo and draw up a loop, [yo and draw through 2 loops] twice. A video tutorial for this stitch is available here.
- hdc – half double crochet
- MC – Main Color
- rep – repeat
- sc – single crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- sp – space
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- yo – yarn over
- *Repeat instructions after asterisk as indicated.
- [] Repeat instructions between brackets as indicated.
- () Repeat instructions between parentheses into same stitch or space.
Pattern Notes
- Shawl is worked side to side in increasing rows to midpoint, and then decreasing rows to opposite edge.
- Ch 2 at beginning of row does not count as a st.
- Adjust the size by changing the length to the midpoint. Edging is crocheted in rows. Move up stitch marker #2 for each row of edging to mark position.
- CC in photographed sample is in a discontinued yarn (Patons Colorwul in 90742 Ocean), but you can easily substitute any bulky weight yarn.

Pattern Instructions
Shawl
Increase to midpoint
- With MC, ch 3.
- Row 1: Turn, skip 2 ch, 3 dc in next ch, place stitch marker #1 in same ch to mark edge. (3 sts)
- Row 2: Turn, ch 2, dc in same st and in next st, 2 dc in last st. (4 sts)
- Row 3: Turn, ch 2, dc in same st and in each st across.
- Row 4: Turn, ch 2, dc in same st and in each st across to last st, 2 dc in next st. (Increases by 1 st per row)
- Rows 5-54: Rep Rows 3-4 24 times, or until shawl measures approximately 36” (91.5 cm), or approximately half of desired width.
- Row 55: Turn, ch 2, place stitch marker #2 around turning ch to mark center row, dc in same st and in each st across.
Decrease to end
- Row 56: Turn, ch 2, dc in same st and in each st across to last 2 sts, dc2tog. (Decreases by 1 st per row)
- Row 57: Rep Row 3.
- Rep Rows 56-57 until 3 sts remain.
- Final Row: Turn, ch 2, dc3tog, do not fasten off, place marker #3 in dc3tog to mark edge.
Edging along straight edge
- Row 1: (Right Side) Turn, ch 1, 2 sc in side of each row along straight edge to marker #1, changing to CC with sl st to marked st, remove marker.
Edging along angled edge
- Row 1: With CC, ch 1, *2 sc in side of each row** to marker #2, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in side of marked row, rep from * to ** to marker 3, 2 sc in side of marked st, remove marker.
- Row 2: Turn, ch 3 (counts as dc, here and throughout), dc in next st and in each st across to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in each st across.
- Row 3: Turn, ch 2, skip first 2 sts, [FPdc around next st, hdcBL in next st] across to ch-2 sp, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in ch-2 sp, [hdcBL in next st, FPdc around next st] across to last 2 sts, dc2tog. Fasten off.
Finishing
- With yarn needle, weave in ends. Wet or spray block to measurements.
