  • Tape Measure
  • Scissors

This will differ depending on your size.

  • I used approximately 290 yds in total
    • 427 Slate Green about 150 yds
    • 426 Spearmint Green about 140 yds

  • HDC DEC = Half Double Crochet Decrease

  • Sp(s) = Spaces(s)
  • St(s) = Stitches

  • A video tutorial for this pattern is available below.

Measurements Needed

  • I will be using my measurements in the examples below.
  • Measure from the middle of your collarbone all the way down to where you want your top to end.
    • Ex. 13” (measurement A)
  • Measure around your body where you want your top to end to get measurement B. For me, that is right above my belly button.
    • Ex. 26” (measurement B)
  • Subtract 5” from measurement B to get your foundation double crochet measurement.
    • Ex. 26” – 5” = 21” (foundation half double crochet measurement)
  • Measure the length between your underbust to where you want your top to end to get measurement C.
    • Ex. 5.5” (measurement C)
  • Subtract 1.5” from measurement C to get measurement D.
    • Ex. 5.5” – 1.5” = 4” (measurement D)
  • Subtract measurement D from measurement A.
    • Ex. 13” – 4” = 9” (measurement E)

Body

How to Change Color

  • Start your HDC. (YO, insert hook into ST or CH. YO pull through.) You should now have 3 loops on your hook.
  • Take your 2nd color yarn and grab it with your hook.
  • Pull 2nd color through the 3 loops on your hook to finish the st.
  • Take both the tail of the 1st color yarn and 2nd color yarn and place them over the top of the working sts to weave them in.
  • Row 1: FHDC until you reach your foundation half double crochet measurement, but do not finish the last st! Change color. (88 sts)
  • If you don’t want to FHDC, you can CH to your foundation half double crochet measurement – 1” (for example 21” – 1” = 20”) and then HDC all the way down the CH, but do not finish the last st! Change color.
  • Row 2: Ch 1. Turn. HDC in 1st st and continue to HDC all the way down, but do not finish the last st! Change color. (88 sts)
  • Row 3 – 13 (or until you reach your measurement D): Repeat row 2 until you reach measurement D. (88 sts)

Decreasing

  • Row 14 (or whatever row you’re currently on): Ch 1. Turn. HDC DEC in 1st 2 sts. HDC all the way down until the last 2 sts. HDC DEC in last 2 sts, but do not finish last st! Change color. (86 sts)
  • Row 15 – 29 (or whatever row you’re currently on): Repeat row 14 until you reach measurement E. (54 sts)
  • Measurement E is how tall your entire top should be at this point, not just the decreasing section.

Keyhole

Before starting Keyhole Portion

  • Count your sts in row 29 (or whatever row you’ve ended your decreases on) and divide by 2.
    • Ex. 54/2 = 27
  • Then subtract 2 from that previous st count.
    • Ex. 27 – 2 = 25 (final st count)
  • The final st count will be how many sts you’ll count over for Row 30.
  • Row 30 (or whatever row you’re currently on): Ch 1. Turn. HDC DEC in 1st 2 sts. HDC all the way down until the last 2 sts of your final st count. HDC DEC in last 2 sts, but do not finish the last st! Change color. (23 sts)
  • Row 31: Ch 1. Turn. HDC DEC in 1st 2 sts. HDC all the way down until last 2 sts. HDC DEC in last 2 sts, but do not finish the last st! Change color. (21 sts)
  • Row 32 – 33: Repeat row 31.
  • Row 34: Ch 1. Turn. HDC DEC in 1st 2 sts. HDC all the way down, but do not finish last st! Change color. (16 sts)
  • Row 35: Ch 1. Turn. HDC in 1st st. HDC all the way down until the last 2 sts. HDC DEC in last 2 sts, but do not finish the last st! Change color. (15 sts)
  • Row 36: Repeat row 34. ( 14 sts)
  • Row 37: Ch 1. Turn. 2 HDC in 1st st. HDC all the way down until last 2 sts. HDC DEC in last 2 sts, but do not finish the last st! Change color. (14 sts)
  • Row 38: Ch 1. Turn. HDC DEC in 1st 2 sts. HDC all the way down until last st. 2 HDC in last st, but do not finish the last st! Change color (14 sts)
  • Row 39: Repeat row 37. (14 sts)
  • Row 40: Repeat row 38. (14 sts)
  • Row 41: Repeat row 37. Ch 1. Cut tail, and pull tight to fasten off. (14 sts)
  • Repeat on other side of top by attaching yarn to the opposite corner with a knot and repeating rows 30-41 on other side.

Border

  • Attach yarn to bottom right hand corner of top. Insert hook. YO, pull through a loop. CH 1.
  • 3 HDC in same st. HDC in each ST along bottom border.
  • 3 HDC in opposite corner. 2 HDC in each HDC SP along side.
  • 3 HDC in corner. HDC in each st along top.
  • 3 HDC in corner. 2 HDC in each HDC SP along right hand side of keyhole until last HDC SP. 1 HDC in last HDC SP before bottom of keyhole. HDC in each ST along bottom of keyhole. 1 HDC in first HDC SP along opposite side of keyhole. 2 HDC in each HDC SP.
  • 3 HDC in corner. HDC in each st along top.
  • 3 HDC in corner. 2 HDC in each HDC SP along side until you reach the beginning. SL ST in first HDC. Ch 1. Cut. Pull through and tighten.

Straps

Neck Strap

  • Ch enough to make a strap long enough to weave through the top of the keyhole sections and tie around your neck. (90-120 ch)

Back Strap

  • Ch enough to make a strap long enough to weave through the back of your top and tie. (300 ch)
  • Weave in all loose ends. Weave neck and back straps through top.
  • And you’re all done!
