Popcorn Box Cowl free crochet pattern in Red Heart Baby Hugs and Super Saver by Underground Crafter #PopcornBoxParty2016 | This boho cowl is a quick and easy project. Mix it up with different color combinations to wear in different seasons!Although I’m fairly introverted in real life, there’s something about virtual parties that I really enjoy! So, when Laura Kelly mentioned she was looking for participants for #PopcornBoxParty2016, the fourth year of the Popcorn Box Blog Hop, I decided to join in.

This post contains affiliate links. Yarn for the sample was generously provided by Red Heart.

The basic premise of the blog hop is this: Laura sent us a goody box filled with freebies from event sponsors, and we figured out something crafty, DIY, or recipe-ish to do with all or some of the supplies. So, what was in the box?

The first thing I start was to unwrap the World Market chocolate bar. (I needed some inspiration after all.) The personalized pencils from Oriental Trading were sharpened and then put aside near my planner. The Udderly Smooth hand cream (yay!) was used to keep my hands smooth while I was crocheting. (You can read my review of Udderly Smooth hand cream for crafters here.)

Then I started staring down the World Market popcorn box. It gave me a nostalgic feeling, and when I get nostalgic, I usually head straight for the 1970s. That’s when the color palette struck. I had some leftover bits of Red Heart yarn from two projects that were just shouting out 1970s once I put them together.

Mix it up with different color combinations to wear in different seasons! And, although fringe is a bit more 1960s, I thought it worked well. Now, for the failed part of the experiment. You know that I try to add a bit of yarn to everything in life, and, er, um, well…

Popcorn Box Cowl free crochet pattern in Red Heart Baby Hugs and Super Saver by Underground Crafter #PopcornBoxParty2016 | This boho cowl is a quick and easy project. Mix it up with different color combinations to wear in different seasons!…let’s just say that a popcorn box doesn’t really make a functional yarn bowl. It does work for purely decorative uses, however!

My testers had a lot of fun with this pattern, too. I particularly loved this child-sized Halloween-themed version by MixedKreations.
