Take a peaceful journey with this beginner-friendly triangular shawl, which is also lightweight enough to wear as a triangular scarf. The muted colors reminded me of a sandy beach with gentle waters. If you didn’t get to experience such a beach this summer, be transported on a mini vacation (in your mind) whenever you wear the Journey Shawl. I’ll also be sharing a giveaway for your chance to win some of this beautiful, Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock yarn, so read on for details.

I have always lovingly caressed the Sweet Georgia yarns on display at my local yarn shop, Knitty City, so when I got the chance to try out Tough Love Sock yarn for myself, I was pretty excited.
Because these yarns are hand dyed, I was open to suggestions for yarn pairings since I know that computer screens don’t always display colors accurately. I will admit that this combo was slightly out of my comfort zone. Once the yarn arrived, though, I was pretty excited.
Perhaps a little too excited? I started and stopped several shawl ideas for this yarn. The yarn is so special that I wanted to make something worthy of its beauty!
But, then Kathy from ELK Studio (an extremely talented crochet shawl designer, by the way) reminded me that a simple design might let the yarn shine even more. I realized I was psyching myself out by trying to create an overly complicated project because the Tough Love Sock yarn was so pretty.
I went back to basics and started with a traditional half-square granny triangle. I added in some solid rows, asymmetrical color changes, and a pretty border to make things a little more interesting.
One of the great things about sock yarn shawls is that they’re so lightweight and portable.
This shawl is easy to pack into your bag in case it gets chilly, or even to wear as a (not-too-bulky) triangle scarf.
Read on for the pattern, and if you’re here before September 1, 2017, don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end of the pattern, too.

I’d start with a cowl or shawl, but want to reserve enough yarn to incorporate into a stranded knitting design. I think tonals are nicer than pure solids when doing colorwork.
