The Cluster Stitch Hat is a cozy unisex beanie and it’s also available in ten sizes from newborn through adult large, so you’re sure to find a size that fits someone on your handmade holiday gift list.

Finished Sizes

  • Newborn (3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12 months – 2 years, 2-3 years, 3-5 years, 6-10 years, Teen/Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large). Photographed sample is Adult Medium.
    • Newborn: 5” (13 cm) height x 12.5” (32 cm) hat circumference.
    • 3-6 months: 5.5” (14 cm) height x 15” (38 cm) hat circumference.
    • 6-12 months: 5.5” (14 cm) height x 16” (40.5 cm) hat circumference.
    • 12 months – 2 years: 6” (15 cm) height x 17” (43 cm) hat circumference.
    • 2-3 years: 6.25” (16 cm) height x 18” (45.5 cm) hat circumference.
    • 3-5 years: 6.75” (17 cm) height x 19” (48.5 cm) hat circumference.

Materials

  • Sprightly Acrylic Worsted yarn (100% acrylic, 3.5 oz/100 g/201 yd/184 m) – 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2) skein(s) in 501-009 Misty Blue, or approximately 75 yd (95 yd, 100 yd, 120 yd, 130 yd, 150 yd, 170 yd, 180 yd, 200 yd, 220 yd)/68.5 m (87 m, 91.5 m, 110 m, 119 m, 137 m, 155.5 m, 164.5 m, 183 m, 201 m) in any medium weight yarn.
  • US Size I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Yarn needle.

Gauge

  • 14 sts x 8.5 rows = 4” (10 cm) in pattern. For best fit, always check your gauge.

  • Starting at brim, ch 43 (51, 55, 59, 63, 67, 71, 75, 79, 83).
  • Set Up Row: Turn, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch and ea ch across. Being careful not to twist, join with sl st to first sc and begin to work in the round. – 42 (50, 54, 58, 62, 66, 70, 74, 78, 82) sts
  • Rnd 1: Beg-cl in first st, *ch 1, sk 1 st, cl in next st; rep from * around to last st, ch 1, sk 1 st, join with sl st to beg-cl.
  • Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st and next ch-1 sp, *sc in next st, sc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * around, join with sl st to first sc.
  • Rep Rnds 1 & 2 until hat measures 2” (2.5,” 2.5,” 3,” 3.25,” 3.75,” 4.25,” 4.5,” 5,” 5.25”)/5 cm (6.5 cm, 6.5 cm, 7.5 cm, 8.5 cm, 9.5 cm, 11 cm, 11.5 cm, 13 cm, 13.5 cm) from start, ending after Round 2. Do not fasten off.

Finishing

  • Fasten off with long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm long). Thread yarn needle with yarn tail. Seam crown closed on inside of hat.
  • With yarn needle, seam Set Up Row closed and weave in ends on inside of hat.
