About Julie Desjardins

Woman holding many crochet hooks in front of her face | How To Crochet Socks, Part 1 - Guest post by ACCROchet for Underground CrafterIn French, ACCRO means addict. ACCROchet is therefore a play on words, to explain this crochet enthusiast’s main motivation. ACCROchet is Julie Desjardins, a bilingual French Canadian crochet designer, who obviously enjoys puns. Julie’s aim is to foster communities that value and recognize the artist’s talent, time, and tools, and that want to surround themselves in those same luxurious elements.

Ice Cream Socks, Part 2

Crochet Pattern (with tips for first time sock crocheters) by ACCROchet

Striped, crocheted socks with yarn on white surface | Free crochet pattern: Ice Cream Socks, Part 2 by ACCROchet (with tips for making perfect toes and feet) on Underground CrafterThe Toes & Feet

As with knit socks, you can crochet socks from the top down, or from the toes up. In knitting, there are definite advantages & disadvantages to either option. In crochet, the pros & cons are not quite as marked, but there are some.

For the purposes of this adventure, I will explain why my patterns are currently all toes up. I do urge you to definitely try as many types of crochet socks as you possibly can! How else can you figure out your own preferences?

As I mentioned, all of my crochet sock patterns are worked from the toe up and there is one major reason for this: working this way lets you try the socks on as you go. Useful, huh? =) The toe section is worked in a spiral – so you won’t be joining rounds.

The first round can seem tricky at first, but when I instruct you not to turn, and to keep working under the chains, do just that!

Pink crocheted stitches on fabric surface | Free crochet pattern: Ice Cream Socks, Part 2 by ACCROchet (with tips for making perfect toes and feet) on Underground CrafterYou will have an equal number of stitches above the chain, and under the chain. Working in a spiral into all of these stitches, with strategically placed increases will create the toe section.Pink crocheted stitches on fabric background | Free crochet pattern: Ice Cream Socks, Part 2 by ACCROchet (with tips for making perfect toes and feet) on Underground CrafterThat’s basically the only tricky part in this section. Here come the instructions!
