Crochet Pattern: Urban Hiker Slouchy Hat in 6 sizes

It’s almost time for fall and that means hat weather is around the corner! The Urban Hiker Slouchy Hat is a textured, striped, unisex slouchy beanie topped with a pom pom. This slouchy beanie crochet pattern is made using basic stitches, so it’s a great beginner project or a “mindless crochet” project. It’s also available in six sizes, so you’re sure to find the right size for your next project.

Back in January, I had the chance to interview Marly Bird about her Chic Sheep by Marly Bird yarn at Creativation, the trade show for the crafts industry. If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to have your own line of yarn (and, um, isn’t it your dream? or is that just me?), you’ll find this really interesting.

After finding out how Marly picked out her colors, I’m excited to be part of Red Heart’s Chic Sheep by Marly Bird Designer Blog Tour. Eighteen designers are sharing new free patterns using Chic Sheep by Marly Bird yarn. If you’re new to this yarn, it’s made with Merino wool, a very soft wool that is great for close-to-skin wear. The wool has been treated so that it’s machine washable and doesn’t felt, so you can use Chic Sheep by Marly Bird yarn for projects that you plan to wash often. It’s available in 24 shades.

For my Urban Hiker Slouchy Hat, I used two shades: Velvet (a dark green) and Sterling (a light gray). I wanted to have plenty of contrast between the stripes.

I chose these two shades because I wanted this project to be unisex and most of the men I know prefer muted colors.

I designed the pattern in six sizes so you can make a coordinating set for your family, or find the size you need for the perfect gift or to donate to charity. And since I couldn’t get enough of those colors, I had to add a pom pom at the end for an extra pop of gray.
