Giveaway: Crochet Guild of America Membership

Proud Supporter of the Crochet Guild of AmericaWelcome to Day 7 of my Seventh Blogiversary Celebration! You can get all the details here. In today’s post, I’ll be sharing a giveaway for an annual membership to one of my favorite organizations, the Crochet Guild of America!

This post contains affiliate links. I may receive compensation (at no added cost to you) if you make a purchase using these links.

I’ve been a member of the Crochet Guild of America for a decade or so, and I’m so glad I joined. I’ve met some wonderful people, used great discounts for buying crochet supplies, and, when I was starting my crochet business, I even got one-to-one mentoring for free from a professional member. For the past five years, I’ve also been volunteering with the CGOA in different ways. For about three years, I wrote crochet book reviews for the Crochet Guild of America’s blog, and since 2016, I’ve been writing monthly guest posts. You can find all of my CGOA Now! blog posts here. Earlier this year, Tamara from Moogly and Linda from Linda Dean Crochet somehow convinced me asked me to chair the newsletter committee, so now I’ve got that going for me, too.

Since being a part of this organization has done so much for me, I thought I would end my seventh blogiversary week of giveaways by paying it forward! I’m giving away one annual membership to the Crochet Guild of America (and, by the way, in spite of the name it is actually an international organization). You can read more about the benefits of joining here, but some of the highlights are:

  • A free, annual subscription to Crochet! Magazine,
  • The member newsletter, “Chain Link” (which I’m now editing!),
  • An exclusive booklet of patterns designed by the board members,
  • Discounts for classes and the marketplace at the CGOA Conference,
  • A members-only design competition with cash prizes, and
  • Lots of discounts! Including to Annie’s, Leisure Arts, and more!

Book Review: Sweet & Tasty Treats by Kristen Rask

Sweet and Tasty Treats by Kristen Rask: book review and giveawayby Underground CrafterWelcome to Day 6 of my Seventh Blogiversary Celebration! You can get all the details here. In today’s post, I’ll be sharing a review for an adorable, boxed crochet kit with 12 amigurumi patterns and the supplies to make two projects. It wouldn’t be a celebration without a giveaway, so there will also be an opportunity for you to win a copy!

I may receive compensation (at no added cost to you) if you make a purchase using these links. A free review copy of Sweet & Tasty Treats: 12 Delectable Designs and Everything You Need to Make 2 Scrumptious Projects by Kristen Rask was provided to me by Quarto. Although I accept free products for review, I do not accept additional compensation, nor do I guarantee a positive review. My reviews are based entirely on my honest opinions.

Book Review

There’s something super fun about boxed sets. Quarto has released a series of amigurumi sets and they sent me some to review.

Sweet and Tasty Treats by Kristen Rask: book review and giveawayby Underground CrafterThe boxes have magnetic flaps, so they are easy to open and close.

Sweet and Tasty Treats by Kristen Rask: book review and giveawayby Underground CrafterInside of Sweet & Tasty Treats: 12 Delectable Designs and Everything You Need to Make 2 Scrumptious Projects by Kristen Rask, you’ll find a booklet, three mini skeins of yarn, fiber fill, a crochet hook, a yarn needle, safety eyes, and a small amount of embroidery floss.

Sweet and Tasty Treats by Kristen Rask: book review and giveawayby Underground CrafterIt’s actually enough to make two projects from the book: a frosted donut by Yummy Pancake and a chocolate cupcake by BerrySprite. So, what’s inside the book?

Sweet and Tasty Treats by Kristen Rask: book review and giveawayby Underground CrafterAs you can see, it’s small enough to bring with you in a project bag as you crochet on the go. The book includes a short introduction by Kristen, a hook size chart, an “about this kit” section that explains what supplies are included, and then it moves into the main chapters. In Techniques and Terms, Kristen shares all the information beginning crocheters will need including how to form a slip knot, basic stitches (including the yarn over, chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet), special stitches (including decreasing and post stitches), and tips for working an adjustable ring and changing color. This section is six pages long and includes many photos. The patterns are then divided into three chapters. Fruits & Veggies includes four patterns, Main Dishes includes five patterns, and Desserts includes three patterns. The patterns are by eight different designers. Each pattern includes a picture of the finished project, an introductory paragraph, a supply list and instructions with several photographs of hands crocheting and the project being joined. The book ends with a short bio of Kristen and all of the designers who contributed to this collection.

If you like the look of adorable amigurumi projects but need a refresher on your crochet skills, this is a great set. Sweet & Tasty Treats would also be wonderful to gift to a teen or just to use as a portable pattern book.

Shop Red Heart, America's Favorite Yarn

As my regular readers know, I became one of Red Heart’s Joy Creators last year. It’s great to be part of this talented group of bloggers that work with Red Heart regularly. Back in January, I got to chat with many of the other Joy Creators in person at the Red Heart booth at Creativation.

Red Heart Booth at Creativation 2018 via Underground CrafterCreativation is the annual trade show of the craft and hobby industry, and it’s the place where I get to see all the cool new products before they are available to the general public. This year, Marly Bird’s new Chic Sheep yarn was a big focus.

Red Heart has so many new yarns, including natural fiber yarns, self-striping yarns, yarns in HUGE skeins, and more. I knew I wanted to share some of these new yarns with my readers, so I asked Red Heart if they could put together a giveaway package. We came up with a great bundle that includes 1 skein each of Bunches of Hugs, Dreamy Stripes, It’s a Wrap, and It’s a Wrap Rainbow, along with a Heart Shape Tape Measure, and a Red Heart Bag to carry it all in. That’s over 3,000 yards (2,743 meters) of yarn to keep you occupied.

Red Heart Yarns giveaway - Underground Crafter's Seventh Blogiversary CelebrationBest of all, there will be TWO prizes, so this awesome bundle will go to two lucky winners. You can find more inspiration on the new yarn page here on RedHeart.com.

Giveaway: Crochet (or Knitting) Business Kit!

Underground Crafter 7th Blogiversary Giveaway: Make Money Teaching Crochet and 30 minutes of consultingWelcome to Day 4 of my Seventh Blogiversary Celebration! You can get all the details here. In today’s post, I’ll be sharing a giveaway for everyone who has thought of making money from their crochet or knitting skills.

This post contains affiliate links. I may receive compensation (at no added cost to you) if you make a purchase using these links.

As my regular readers know, I’ve been in the “crochet business” since 2008. I started out teaching crochet and selling my finished projects at craft fairs during the holiday season. Later, I added freelance crochet design and teaching knitting. Now, my business is more focused on self-published crochet and knitting design, but I still do other things to diversify my income. For two years, I hosted the Creative Yarn Entrepreneur Show, a podcast filled with great ideas for indies with yarn-related businesses. (I even hope to bring it out of hiatus one day in the near future.) So, today’s giveaway is one that is close to my heart!

I know lots of talented crafters struggle with getting their businesses off the ground. I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but I can definitely help with some ideas. Today’s giveaway includes two prizes: my book, Make Money Teaching Crochet: Launch Your Business, Increase Your Side Income, Reach More Students and a 30-minute Skype consultation about your crochet or knitting business (or, business idea, if you haven’t yet started your business).

Let me tell you a bit more about the two prizes. If the winner’s in the U.S., s/he will have a choice of the signed Workbook Edition, the print book including 15 worksheets and forms for your teaching business, or the Ultimate Printable Edition, the PDF ebook including 15 worksheets and 5 customizable forms in Microsoft Word that you can use in your teaching business. Even if you don’t plan to teach, there are lots of crochet business ideas inside. Although the book’s title emphasizes crochet, most of it is also applicable to knitting.

The Skype consultation will be for 30-minutes at a mutually agreeable time, scheduled before June 30, 2018. I can brainstorm ideas with you, answer your business questions, and refer you to different resources.

I’m looking forward to getting to know one lucky reader a little bit better through this Skype call!

Underground Crafter 7th Blogiversary Giveaway: Two knitting books from Sixth&Spring Books (Vogue Knitting The Ultimate Knitting Book and 60 Quick Knits for Beginners)I know a lot of my readers are knitters and some are aspiring knitters. So, when I got review copies of Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Knitting Book and 60 Quick Knits for Beginners from Sixth&Spring Books, I know they would make great blogiversary giveaways.

The last edition of Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Knitting Book is the book I was gifted when I first started knitting. It’s an incredible reference book and over 1 million copies have been sold! 60 Quick Knits for Beginners is a new book featuring step-by-step knitting photo tutorials and 60 beautiful patterns from beginner through experienced. Together, these books would help any newbie knitter get to intermediate status, and if you’re already a knitter, there’s plenty of inspiration for learning new things.

These books are so good that I’m going to share a review of each in the coming weeks. But I wanted to make sure that one lucky reader would get their hands on both books as part of my seventh blogiversary giveaway!
