About Ned & Mimi

Sarah Ruane is a crochet designer and blogger at Ned & Mimi. She is also a software developer, and until she started crocheting, she always thought that she was too left brained to be creative. Now she thinks crochet is the perfect mix of art and logic. She likes to be very intentional with what she creates and designs – it must be going to a good home or fulfilling a purpose in her house!

Sarah lives in Ireland (where the unpredictable weather ensures ample time for crocheting), with her husband and three children.

Color Block Triangle Scarf

Crochet Pattern by Ned & Mimi

About the Scarf

I designed this scarf as a birthday gift for my sister Mary. She adores mustard and navy so that made the color choice very easy for me (thanks Mary). I wanted this to be a winter scarf, so it had to be cosy and comfy but not too bulky, and I love how you can get amazing texture from even a simple sc/dc stitch pattern.

I decided to use Paintbox Yarns Wool Mix Aran for this scarf as I really wanted the warmth that you get with wool, but with a bit less weight than you would get from a pure wool yarn. Any worsted weight/#4 yarn would work great.

This scarf is really easy to crochet; aside from the increases required to create the triangle shape, it’s really just a one-row repeat at its core. So, it makes a perfect couch project while requiring just a little bit of concentration. The color changes create handy little milestones so you will be finished before you even realize it.

Pattern Notes: Construction

  • This scarf is crocheted from the bottom up in three steps:
  • Starting with C1, crochet the main triangle block beginning at the bottom tip, and increasing upwards and outwards
  • Changing to C2, crochet along one edge of the triangle to add a second color block
  • Finally, change to C3 and crochet along the remaining edge to create the third color block

Finished Measurements

  • 55” (140 cm) in width x 27.5” (70 cm) in length

You can adjust the scarf size as you wish – the only thing to remember is that for the main triangle section, you need to end your row count on a multiple of four. From this point on, you can just follow the pattern as is.

  • 12 stitches x 15 rows = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm)
  • Stitch pattern: (sc, dc) in same st, sk 1 st

    • (sc, ch 2, sc) into the magic circle (place a st marker in the ch-2 sp), continue to sc evenly up along the opposite edge until you reach the starting hdc from the previous row, sc into the side of the hdc, hdc into the top of the hdc, turn [198]
