King Cole Big Value DK 50g yarn review and giveaway

King Cole Big Value DK 50g Yarn Review

One of my favorite things about being a King Cole Brand Ambassador is getting the opportunity to crochet and knit with so many fabulous yarns! King Cole Big Value DK 50g is one of the workhorse yarns from King Cole that you can find in your local yarn shop or online at LoveCrafts or Wool Warehouse UK.

Before I get into my review, let me share some yarn facts. King Cole Big Value DK 50g is available in 1.75 ounce (50 gram) center-pull skeins. Currently, there are over 50 different solid colors available. The fiber content is 100% premium acrylic. Each ball includes 158 yards (145 meters) of yarn. The same yarn is also available as Big Value Baby DK 50g (also available at your local yarn shop or online at LoveCrafts or Wool Warehouse UK) in almost 20 more pastel and bright colors. As the name suggests, Big Value DK 50g is a DK yarn (#3/light) weight category. Big Value DK 50g projects can be machine washed at up to 40 degrees Celsius/104 degrees Fahrenheit and tumble dried. I would recommend washing projects on a cold or warm, delicate cycle (such as woolens or delicates) and tumble drying on low or delicates. Projects made with this yarn can be dry cleaned (tell your dry cleaner it is labelled with the “A” symbol so they know which solvents to use).

Big Value DK 50g is what I would describe as a workhorse yarn. It’s available in many solid colors and since the skeins are only 50g, it is perfect for colorwork or projects like toys where you may need a little bit of lots of colors. It has a relatively smooth texture with just the twist of the yarn, so it doesn’t distract from or compete with decorative stitch patterns. You can use Big Value DK for all the types of patterns you would make with a soft, acrylic light weight (DK/#3) yarn: blankets and home decor projects, garments, accessories, toys, and so on.
