  • 7″ (18 cm) wide x 8″ (20.5 cm) long.

Materials

  • Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (100% mercerized cotton, 3.5 oz/100 g/186 yd/170 m) – 1 skein ea in 143 Lilac (CA) and 98 Ecru (CB), or approximately 50 yd (46 m) in ea of 2 colors in any medium weight, cotton yarn.
  • US Size 7/4.5 mm knitting needles, or any size needed to obtain gauge. (I used my Denise2Go Knitting for the Cure set for the sample and in the video.)
  • Yarn needle.


Gauge

  • 23 sts = 4″ (10 cm) in pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.

Abbreviations Used in This Pattern

  • BO – bind off
  • CA – Color A
  • CB – Color B
  • CO – cast on
  • k – knit
  • k2tog – knit 2 sts together
  • p – purl
  • psso – pass slipped st over k2tog

  • CO 41 sts (or any multiple of 10 sts, + 1).

Simple Chevron Stitch pattern

  • Row 1: (RS) K2tog, *k3, yo, k1, yo, k3,** sl 1, k2tog, psso; rep from * across, ending last rep at ** with 2 sts remaining, k2tog.
  • Row 2: K1, p to last st, k1.
  • Rep Rows 1 & 2 until dishcloth measures approximately 8″ (20.5 cm) long, ending after Row 2.
  • BO in pattern for Row 1. Fasten off.

Finishing

  • With yarn needle, weave in ends.

This week’s dishcloth features the a stitch that was called Granada in the book I found it in. I decided to name this dishcloth after the Alhambra, one of the stunning sites you can see in Granada, Spain. It has a great texture and uses a simple 4-row repeat.

Alhambra Dishcloth, free knitting pattern in Lion Brand 24/7 yarn by Underground Crafter | This textured dishcloth reminded me of the beautiful Alhambra palace in Granada, Spain.

US terms 504-medium 50This textured stitch creates small chevron arches.

  • 7.5″ (19 cm) square.

Materials

  • Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (100% mercerized cotton, 3.5 oz/100 g/186 yd/170 m) – 1 skein in 142 Rose, or approximately 90 yd (82.5 m) in any medium weight, cotton yarn.
  • US Size 7/4.5 mm knitting needles, or any size needed to obtain gauge. (I used my Denise2Go Knitting for the Cure set for the sample.)
  • Yarn needle.

  • 20 sts = 4″ (10 cm) in pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.

Pattern Notes

  • Carry unworked color up side of project. Be sure to carry yarn for slip stitches and up rows loosely to avoid puckering.
  • For a scrappy version, use one as CA, and alternate colors for Rows 1-2 and 5-6 throughout.
  • A video tutorial is available at the end of the pattern.
  • Pattern repeat is any multiple of 4 sts, + 5. Instructions do not include side borders.

Pattern Instructions

  • With CA, CO 37 sts (or any multiple of 4 sts, + 5 for the edge).

Border

  • Border Row 1: With CA, k across.
  • Border Row 2: With CA, p across.
  • Border Rows 3 & 4: Rep Border Rows 1 & 2.

Ribbon Stitch pattern

  • Row 1: With CB, k1, *k3, sl 1 pw wyib; rep from * across to last 4 sts, k4.
  • Row 2: With CB, k4, *sl 1 pw wyif, k3; rep from * across to last st, k1.
  • Row 3: With CA, k across.
  • Row 4: With CA, p across.
  • Row 5: With CB, k1, *k1, sl 1 pw wyib, k2; rep from * across .
  • Row 6: With CB, *k2, sl 1 pw wyif, k1; rep from * across to last st, k1.
  • Rows 7 & 8: Rep Rows 3 & 4 once.
  • Rep Rows 1-8 until approximately 7.5” (19 cm) long, ending after Row 4. Fasten off CB.

Border

  • With CA, rep Border Rows 1-4.
  • BO in pattern for Border Row 1. Fasten off CA.

Finishing

  • With yarn needle, weave in ends.
