This week’s dishcloth features the a stitch that was called Granada in the book I found it in. I decided to name this dishcloth after the Alhambra, one of the stunning sites you can see in Granada, Spain. It has a great texture and uses a simple 4-row repeat.

Alhambra 7.5″ (19 cm) Dishcloth

Knitting Pattern by Underground Crafter

Alhambra Dishcloth, free knitting pattern in Lion Brand 24/7 yarn by Underground Crafter | This textured dishcloth reminded me of the beautiful Alhambra palace in Granada, Spain.

US terms 504-medium 50This textured stitch creates small chevron arches.

 

Finished Size

  • 7.5″ (19 cm) square.

Materials

  • Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (100% mercerized cotton, 3.5 oz/100 g/186 yd/170 m) – 1 skein in 142 Rose, or approximately 90 yd (82.5 m) in any medium weight, cotton yarn.
  • US Size 7/4.5 mm knitting needles, or any size needed to obtain gauge. (I used my Denise2Go Knitting for the Cure set for the sample.)
  • Yarn needle.


Gauge

  • 20 sts = 4″ (10 cm) in pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.

Abbreviations Used in This Pattern

  • BO – bind off
  • CO – cast on
  • k – knit
  • p – purl
  • p3tog – purl 3 stitches together (decrease)
  • rep – repeat
  • RS – right (front) side
  • sl 1 – slip 1 st, knitwise
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • yo – yarn over (increase)
  • * Rep instructions after asterisk as indicated.

Pattern Note

  • A video tutorial is coming soon.
  • Pattern repeat is any multiple of 7 sts, + 4.

Pattern Instructions

  • CO 39 sts (or any multiple of 7 sts, + 4 for the edges).
  • Row 1: (RS) Sl 1, k to last st, p1.
  • Row 2: Sl 1, p across.
  • Row 3: Sl 1, k2, *yo, p1, p3tog, p1, yo, k2; rep from * across to last st, p1.
  • Row 4: Rep Row 2.
  • Rep Rows 1-4 until dishcloth measures approximately 7.5″ (19 cm), ending after Row 2 or Row 4.
  • BO in pattern for Row 1. Fasten off.

Finishing

  • With yarn needle, weave in ends.
