It’s no secret that I love retro ’70s color palettes. I used three neutrals and a simple stitch pattern to create The Vintage Infinity Scarf, a cozy, unisex neckwrapper that can be worn straight or seamed into an infinity scarf.

It’s crocheted flat in rows and seamed at the end, so you can gift (or wear) it as a straight scarf or as an infinity scarf. It’s unisex and cozy, and would look great in this color combination or many others!

Vintage Infinity Scarf
Crochet Pattern by Underground Crafter
A simple stitch pattern and a retro color combination create a cozy, unisex scarf that can be worn straight or seamed into an infinity scarf.
Finished Size
- Adult: 52” (132 cm) long x 6” (15 cm) wide.
Materials
- Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice yarn (% acrylic, 3.5 oz/100 g/170 yd/156 m) – 1 skein each in 153 Black (CA), 130 Honey (CB), and 400 Oatmeal (CC), or approximately 165 yd (151 m) in each of 3 colors in any medium weight yarn.
- US Size I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
- Yarn needle.
Gauge
- 13 sts = 4” (10 cm) in pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.
Abbreviations Used in This Pattern
- CA – Color A
- CB – Color B
- CC – Color C
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- rep – repeat
- sc – single crochet
- sk – skip
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- * Repeat instructions after asterisk as indicated.
Pattern Notes
- Change color at the end of designated row in the last yarn over of final stitch of row.
Pattern Instructions
Scarf
- With CA, ch 171 (or any multiple of 2 sts + 3). You can find tips for working with a long foundation chain here.
- Row 1: Turn, sk 2 ch (counts as first sc), dc in next ch, *sk 1 ch, (sc, dc) in next ch; rep from * across to last 2 ch, sk 1 ch, sc in last ch. (169 sts)
- Row 2: Turn, ch 1, (sc, dc) in same st, *sk 1, (sc, dc) in next st; rep from * across to last 2 sts, sk 1, sc in last st.
- Row 3: Rep Row 2, changing to CB in last st.
- Rows 4-6: Rep Row 2, 3 times, changing to CC in last st of Row 6.
- Rows 7-12: Rep Row 2, 6 times, changing to CB in last st of Row 12.
- Rows 13-15: Rep Row 2, 3 times, changing to CA in last st of Row 15.
- Rows 16-18: Rep Row 2, 3 times. For straight scarf, fasten off and continue to Finishing instructions. For infinity scarf, fasten off with long yarn, approximately 18” (46 cm), for seaming.
- Thread yarn needle with yarn tail and seam short ends together using the mattress stitch. You can find a mattress stitch tutorial here. It creates a nearly invisible seam.
Finishing
- With yarn needle, weave in ends.
