It has a nice feel to it so it makes a very comfortable scarf to wear close to the skin. It’s also machine washable and dryable, so it’s great for making gifts or projects to donate.

(I made it while watching some streaming tv, so that’s also an option for a more advanced crocheter. If you want to use the same colorway, it’s called 301 Atlanta.

It’s the perfect project to wear in transitional weather.

Finished Size

  • Adult: 6” (15 cm) wide x 36” (91.5 cm) long.

Materials

  • Cascade Anthem Chords yarn (100% acrylic, 3.5 oz/100 g/186 yd/170 m) – 2 skeins in 301 Atlanta, or approximately 186 yd (170 m) any medium weight yarn. PLEASE NOTE: I used exactly 1 skein of yarn for this project, so if your gauge is different than mine, you may run out before finishing. That’s why I recommend getting 2 skeins just in case.
  • US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Yarn needle.

Gauge

  • 16 sts x 12 rows = 4” (10 cm) in pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this pattern.

Abbreviations Used in This Pattern

  • ch – chain
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • rep – repeat
  • sk – skip
  • sp – space
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • * Repeat instructions after asterisk as indicated.
  • [] Repeat instructions between brackets as indicated.

Pattern Note

  • Ch 1 at start of rows does not count as a stitch.

Pattern Instructions

Scarf

  • Ch 24.
  • Row 1: Turn, sk 1 ch, hdc in next ch, *ch 1, sk 1 ch, hdc in next ch; rep from * across. (23 sts = 12 hdc + 11 ch-1 sp)
  • Row 2: Turn, ch 1, hdc in first st, hdc in first ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk 1 st, hdc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * across to last st, hdc in last st (23 sts = 13 hdc + 10 ch-1 sp).
  • Row 3: Turn, ch 1, hdc in first st, *ch 1, sk 1 st, hdc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * across to last st, hdc in last st. (23 sts = 12 hdc + 11 ch-1 sp)
  • Rep Rows 2-3 until scarf measures approximately 30” (76 cm), ending after Row 3.

Shape keyhole

  • Row 4: Turn, ch 1, hdc in first st, hdc in first ch-1 sp, [ch 1, sk 1 st, hdc in next ch-1 sp] 3 times, ch 7, sk 7 sts, [hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk 1 st] 3 times, hdc in next ch-1 sp, hdc in last st. (23 sts = 10 hdc + 6 ch-1 sp + 1 ch-7 sp)
  • Row 5: Turn, ch 1, hdc in first st, *[ch 1, sk 1 st, hdc in next ch-1 sp] 3 times,** [hdc in next ch, ch 1, sk 1 ch] 3 times, hdc in next ch, rep from * to **, ch 1, sk 1 st, hdc in last st. (23 sts = 12 hdc + 11 ch-1 sp)
  • Rep Rows 2-3 until scarf measures approximately 36” (91.5 cm) long, or until approximately 6” (15 cm) after keyhole, ending after Row 3.

Finishing

  • With yarn needle, weave in ends.
