Crochet Pattern: Gift Pocket Bear

Free crochet pattern: Gift Pocket Bear amigurumi by Underground CrafterIn honor of Grandparent’s Day, I’m sharing this free pattern for the Gift Pocket Bear. My maternal grandmother taught me to crochet and she used to crochet adorable bears way before amigurumi was popular, so this seems a fitting homage. Of course, you can use this bear to spice up a gift card for anyone, or for any occasion.

This pattern was originally published on the Galler Yarns blog, which is no longer available. It was updated in June, 2018. Enjoy the pattern!

Assembly and Finishing

  • Thread the yarn needle with the yarn tail from the first Ear. Match 6 stitches on the Ear to 6 stitches at the top of Head. With yarn needle, whipstitch Ear to Head (see Pattern Notes), going across the stitches on the front and then the back of the Ear. Repeat with other Ear.
  • Slide the safety eyes into position between stitches on the Head above the nose opening. When you are satisfied with the position, insert the washer until it clicks.
  • Thread yarn needle with the yarn tail from the Neck. Position the Neck at the bottom of the Head so that it is centered relative to Eyes and Ears. Join the Neck to the bottom of the head with the whipstitch.
  • Stuff the Head. Stuff the Muzzle. Thread the yarn needle with the yarn tail from the Muzzle. Join the Muzzle to the Head with the whipstitch.
  • Stuff the Arms. Position first Arm at the side of Body in the top quarter of the Body. Thread yarn needle with yarn tail from the Arm, join to the Body with the whipstitch. Repeat for other Arm.
  • Stuff the Neck and Body. Position the Gift Pocket Square towards the bottom of the body, about 1-2 Rows above the Legs. Thread yarn needle with long yarn tail from Gift Pocket Square, join the Square to the Body with the whipstitch on 3 sides, leaving the top of the square (underneath the Head) open to form a pocket.
  • Fold the first Leg in half. Thread the yarn needle with the long yarn tail from the Leg. Sew the sides of the Leg together until approximately 0.5” (1.5 cm) from the Body. Stuff the Leg and then finish sewing up the sides, adding stuffing as necessary. Join the Leg to the body with a whipstitch into the unworked sc on the body. Repeat with other Leg.
  • Cut an approximately 12” (30.5 cm) strand of yarn in CB. Thread into yarn needle. Starting 1-2 rounds below muzzle join, stitch around the surface of the crochet stitches to form a smile.
  • Weave all remaining ends into inside of Body.
