60 Quick Knitted Toys book review and giveaway on Underground Crafter

60 Quick Knitted Toys: Fun, Fabulous Knits in the 220 Superwash Collection from Cascade Yarns is another installment in the 60 Quick Knits series published by Sixth & Spring Books. Previously, I’ve reviewed two other books in this series, 60 More Quick Knits: 20 Hats 20 Scarves 20 Mittens in Cascade 220 Sport (reviewed here) and 60 Quick Luxury Knits: Easy, Elegant Projects for Every Day in the Venezia Collection from Cascade Yarns (reviewed here).

Like the other books in this series, 60 Quick Knitted Toys is a pattern collection featuring themed projects in one yarn by many designers. As the title suggests, this collection is all about toys but it actually features a range of projects. There are 23 animal and creature softies; 8 people softies; 9 other softies; 8 games, puppets, blocks, and balls; 6 pillows; 5 rattles and ring toys; and 1 lovey. Most of the patterns (45) have an intermediate difficulty rating, with 7 easy projects and 6 experienced projects.

Each pattern features several adorably staged photographs of the project, along with a difficulty level, a materials list, gauge, and a glossary of special stitch patterns. The patterns are written in U.S. knitting abbreviations. Some of the color work patterns also include charts. The book ends with a two-page illustrated techniques section and an index. It is clearly aimed at knitters who  have the basics down but are looking for patterns.

Like all pattern collections, you’ll be more likely to enjoy it if you want to make several of the patterns. You can look at all the patterns in the book on the Ravelry source page here. For an intermediate or advanced beginner knitter who enjoys making toys or gifts for children, it’s a strong collection featuring a variety of different styles and techniques.

  1. Argyle Bear + Friendly Lobster + Robot Pillow = Friendly Argyle Robot with Lobster Claws!

So I’m an evil scientist with knitting needles! You gotta problem with that?

Maybe it needs a Triceratops Frill – or would that be too much?

  2. I would make the barnyard balls for my grandson who loves all balls. Also the hammer and saw and tool set. Great patterns

  3. I would definitely make the three little monkeys first. As soon as I saw the picture of the three of them, just from the back, I could see how cute they would be. Thanks for the giveaway.
