Anna Nikipirowicz is a crochet and knitting designer, author, and teacher. This pattern was originally published in Crocheted Purses (Twenty to Make) and it’s also published in 100 Little Crochet Gifts to Make, a collection from Search Press including patterns from eight books by five designers. Watermelon Crochet Pattern by Anna Nikipirowicz

Materials:
- 1 ball each of worsted weight (light aran) yarn in deep rose (A), white (B) and green (C); 100g/220yd/200m
Hook:
- 4.5mm (US 7, UK 7) crochet hook
Notions:
- Approx. 111 x small black beads
- 6¾in (17cm) zip
Size:
- Approx. 3½in (9cm) end to end and 7½in (19cm) at the widest point
Instructions:
- Thread all the beads onto yarn A and with 4.5mm (US 7, UK 7) crochet hook make 6 hdc (UKhtr) in adjustable ring. Join with a sl st to fi rst st. Work a bead into every other hdc (UKhtr) on rounds: 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 only.
- Round 1: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) into base of 2 ch, *2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, rep from * to end, sl st into second ch at beg of round (12 sts).
- Round 2: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) into base of 2 ch, *1 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, rep from * to last st, 1 hdc (UKhtr) into last st, sl st into second ch at beg of round (18 sts).
- Round 3: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, *1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 2 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, rep from * to end, sl st into second ch at beg of round (24 sts).
- Round 4: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 2 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, *1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 3 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, rep from * to end, sl st into second ch at beg of round (30 sts).
- Round 5: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 2 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, *1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 3 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, rep from * to last 2 sts, 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 2 sts, sl st into second ch at beg of round (37 sts).
- Round 6: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 2 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, *1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 3 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, rep from * to last st, 1 hdc (UKhtr), sl st into second ch at beg of round (46 sts).
- Round 7: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 2 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, *1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 3 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, rep from * to last 2 sts, 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 2 sts, sl st into second ch at beg of round (57 sts).
- Round 8: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 2 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, *1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 3 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, rep from * to last st, 1 hdc (UKhtr), sl st into second ch at beg of round (71 sts).
- Round 9: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 2 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, *1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 3 sts, 2 hdc (UKhtr) in next st, rep from * to last 3 sts, 1 hdc (UKhtr) in next 3 sts, sl st into second ch at beg of round (88 sts).
- Round 10: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in every st to end, sl st into second ch at beg of round. Change to yarn B.
- Round 11: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in every st to end, sl st into second ch at beg of round. Change to yarn C.
- Round 12: 2 ch (count as 1 hdc (UKhtr)), 1 hdc (UKhtr) in every st to end, sl st into second ch at beg of round. Fasten off yarn.
Making up
- Weave in ends. Fold purse in half and stitch for 2in (5cm) up each side. Insert the zip.
