Snowicorn

Crochet Pattern by DoraDoes

Free crochet pattern: Snowicorn amigurumi by DoraDoes for Underground Crafter | This adorable critter is a mashup of a snowman and a unicorn.Materials:

  • Hook: 3.5mm / E hook, or hook to suit your chosen yarn

Yarn:

  • Around 50 yards of Double Knit (DK) Yarn in white for the body and ears (I have used one with a little sparkle in it which is all over the stores at this time of year!).
  • You will also need a small amount of the same weight yarn in colour of your choice for the Horn, mane and scarf. I have used a variegated yarn in pastel rainbow colours because all Snowicorns are unique!
  • A few inches of yarn or embroidery thread in orange for the carrot nose.

Other bits:

  • Safety eyes or black yarn to sew in eyes. I used 6mm safety eyes
  • A tapestry / yarn needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Fairfield Poly-Fil Fiber Fill or equivalent to fill the snowman

Stitches (US Terms):

  • blo = back loop only
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • sc2tog = single crochet 2 together: Insert hook, yo, pull up a loop, insert hook into next st, yo pull up a loop, yo, pull through 3 loops.
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st = stitch
  • yo = yarn over
  • ** Repeat instructions between the asterisks

Size & Gauge:

  • Gauge is not important for this project though I recommend crocheting fairly tight or using a hook on the smaller size of what is recommended for the yarn you choose. The finished height of the Snowicorn will depend on your tension and the yarn you use. Mine measured about 4.5in high to the top of the horn.

Pattern Notes:

  • Magic ring: You can find a video tutorial on how to create a magic ring here. This is also known as the magic circle or loop. If you are not familiar with the magic ring for working in the round then you can ch2 and work the number of stitches indicated into the second ch from the hook instead to start the pattern.

  •  The Main body of the Snowicorn is worked in one piece in a continuous round, starting at the top of the head and working down.  You should stuff it and add the safety eyes as you go.
  • The Horn and ears are made separately and sewn on.  The mane is then added with a hook and or needle and the scarf tied round it’s neck to finish!
