Mélange Blanket Square 25: Beaming Afghan Square
Our twenty-fifth square pattern is the Beaming Afghan Square by Raji’s Craft Party. You can find Raji online at Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest | Ravelry | YouTube
You can see Raji’s versions in two colors below.
I used King Cole Big Value Aran (available through your local yarn shop or online at LoveCrafts or Wool Warehouse UK) for my square, along with my Denise US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook, to keep my tension and gauge similar across squares by different designers.
I will say right up front that if you are not familiar with changing colors within rows, this square will be a bit challenging. But, it is so pretty and totally worth it! (Raji also made a video tutorial which you can see below.) For my version, I used Nougat for the main color and Ocean as the changed to color in Rounds 1 through 5. At the end of Round 5, my square was already 5″ (13 cm), so I decided to work the final Round (Round 6) entirely in Berry with no color changes. I then spray blocked the square. (If you’re new to blocking, check out Blocking Basics for Crocheters and Knitters.)
