International Crochet Month is a celebration of everything crochet, so for the second annual International Crochet Month Blog Hop, I asked each participating blogger to create a pattern represents something the designer loves about crochet – a favorite stitch, a technique, a project type, and so on.

The Convertible Hooded (Infinity) Scarf pattern includes several of my favorite things about crocheting: making beautiful things that are also functional, using pretty yarns, and getting to use beautiful buttons to embellish my project!

I also used one of my favorite stitch combinations.

For this project I used two sets of handmade, machine washable buttons made by Boutons d’Auj on Etsy

And, one of my favorite yarns, Lion Brand Scarfie, in two different colorways that coordinate. Scarfie is available online from Lion Brand | LoveCrafts | JOANN | Amazon. You can find more of my free crochet patterns in Scarfie here.

Convertible Hooded (Infinity) Scarf

Crochet Hooded Scarf Pattern by Underground Crafter

Updated 3/5/2024

This crochet hooded scarf is convertible. Buttons with loops let you wear it as a scarf, an infinity scarf, a hood, or a hooded scarf. The simple stitch pattern is beginner friendly, too! This is the first pattern in the second annual International Crochet Month Blog Hop.

Finished Size

  • Teen/Adult: Scarf: 50” (127 cm) length x 7” (18 cm) width. Hood: 20” (51 cm) width x 11” (28 cm) height.

Materials

  • Lion Brand Scarfie (78% acrylic/22% wool, 5.3 oz/150 g, 312 yd/285 m) – 2 skeins in 252 C Blue/Cream (CA) and 1 skein in 204AR Denim/Navy, or approximately 345 yd (315.5 m) in CA and 210 yd (192 m) in CB in any bulky weight wool and acrylic blend yarn.
  • US Size K-10.5/6.5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • 1” diameter buttons – 9 buttons. I used a handmade button from Boutons d’Auj on Etsy. Tip: Choose sew-through buttons with holes wide enough to fit your yarn needle through.

Gauge

  • 14 sts x 14 rows = 4” (10 cm) in pattern for Row 2 of Scarf. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.
