What is Electric Quilt?
I bought Electric Quilt 8 back in 2022. If you’re new to Electric Quilt (also known as EQ8 or EQ), it’s a user-friendly software for designing quilts. If you’ve used a quilt pattern with graphic images of the blocks, it’s very likely you’ve seen EQ in action before. It’s an awesome software that you can use personally for designing your own quilts, or if you’re interested in designing quilts, you can use EQ to export images (high quality for print, or web images to share on your blog or social media) for your patterns.
What’s inside the EQ for You Starter Box?
First off, the EQ for You Starter Box is in a giftable box. It is shipped inside of another box, so it arrives undamaged whether you plan to wrap it or have it shipped directly to the recipient. Inside you’ll find everything you (or the recipient of your gift!) needs to get started with EQ.

As soon as you open the box, you’ll find a welcome note…

…with instructions for getting started including your code for a one-year EQ Membership that includes free virtual fabric downloads so you can customize the quilts and blocks you design, discounts, and a free gift.

You’ll also find a box including your download code for Electric Quilt 8 and a printed 48-page booklet to get you started with downloading, installation, and activation of your software. The booklet also includes a starter lesson, quick tips, and other references.

EQ for You Starter Box also comes with EQ 8 Lessons for Beginners, a 128-page illustrated book with spiral binding so it’s easy to read along while you’re trying out each of the lessons. This book covers the basics of EQ8 and gives you the chance to design quilts, draw blocks, import fabric scans, calculate yardage estimates, and print out templates, rotary cutting charts, and foundation paper piecing patterns.

You’ll also get some cute swag! There’s an EQ Mouse Pad and a sticker for your computer or sewing machine.

You’ll also get the Simple Starts Add-On which includes beginner-friendly projects to download for design inspiration, and quick links to helpful videos to get you started on your EQ journey.

Is the EQ for You Starter Box worth it for me/as a gift?
What I love about the EQ for You Starter Box is that it includes everything you need to get started on your Electric Quilt 8 journey in one giftable box (which is also helpful for organizing all your EQ “stuff” if like me, you don’t have a true sewing workspace and have to set up and put it away quickly). If you like to quilt, and especially if you like foundation paper piecing, modifying existing designs, creating your own layouts, or experimenting with blocks, then you’ll love the EQ for You Starter Box. It has everything you need to get started, build your confidence, and extend your EQ skills.
