The Tulip Stitch is a crochet pattern that combines alternating rows of v-stitches and bobbles to mimic the look of a flower on a stem. It’s a very pretty stitch that you can use for a wide array of projects, including blankets and pillows, scarves, and more. I’ve included both a video tutorial and the written pattern description so you can crochet the way that you prefer to learn!

Last September, I went to the home of FaveCrafts to film videos for Darn Good Yarn. I’m excited to share the second of these, a tutorial for the Tulip Stitch. If you’re new to bobbles or the v-stitch, don’t worry because I will walk you through both in the video.
This stitch has a pretty texture. I used Darn Good Yarn Silk Roving Worsted Weight yarn, a beautiful hand dyed yarn made from recycled silk, and the crochet hook from the Ombre Knitting Needle & Crochet Hook Bundle in the video.

Crochet Pattern with video by Underground Crafter
The tulip stitch pattern alternates rows of v-stitches and bobbles to mimic the look of a flower on a stem.
Finished Size
- Varies based on yarn weight, needle size, tension, and number of stitches in your foundation chain.
Materials
- Smooth yarn in any weight. I used Darn Good Yarn Silk Roving Worsted Weight yarn for the samples.
- Crochet hook in a size recommended for yarn weight. I used the crochet hook from the Darn Good Yarn Ombre Knitting Needle & Crochet Hook Bundle.
Abbreviations Used in This Pattern
- bob – 5-repeat bobble – [Yo, insert hook in st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops] 5 times in same st, yo and draw through all 6 loops on hook.
- CA – Color A
- CB – Color B
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- rep – repeat
- sp – space
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- v-st – v-stitch – (Dc, ch 1, dc) in same st.
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- yo – yarn over
- * Repeat instructions after asterisk as indicated.
- () Repeat instructions between parentheses in same stitch or space.
- [] Repeat instructions between brackets as indicated.

Pattern Instructions
- With CA, ch any multiple of 3 sts, + 4 sts.
- Row 1: Turn, sk 3 ch (counts as dc), *sk 1 ch, v-st in next ch, skip 1 ch; rep from * across to last ch, dc in next ch, changing to CB in final yo.
- Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st, *sc in next st, bob in ch-1 sp, sc in next st; rep from * across to last st, sc in last st.
- Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and in each st across, changing to CA in final yo of last sc.
- Row 4: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and in each st across.
- Row 5: Turn, ch 3 (counts as dc), * sk 1 st, v-st in next st, sk 1 st; rep from * across to last st, dc in last st, changing to CB in final yo.
- Rep Rows 2-5 until desired length is reached, ending after Row 4.
