Visit to Michael Miller Fabrics

Have you ever wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes at your favorite fabric company? As a Michael Miller Fabrics brand ambassador, I got the chance to visit the New York office last week and I’m sharing my pictures with you! I’m also sharing the unboxing of my welcome box with a sneak peek of an upcoming project, so read on for details.

This post contains affiliate links. I may receive compensation (at no added cost to you) if you make a purchase using these links. I am a 2020 Brand Ambassador for Michael Miller Fabrics and this post is part of our ongoing collaboration. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Last year, I attended Quilt Festival in Houston with the intent of connecting with a fabric company. I was so excited to meet Shari and Susan from Michael Miller Fabrics because I love their fabrics and the company is located right here in my home town of New York City.

I love the quality, selection, and fun styles in their fabrics, and it’s pretty cool that in addition to a wide range of 100% cotton quilting fabric, they also make Minky. You can find Michael Miller Fabrics at your local quilt shop, or online at Amazon. There’s also a selection of Michael Miller Fabrics available online at LoveCrafts, where you can also download dozens of free Michael Miller Fabrics quilt patterns.

I applied to be a brand ambassador as soon as I got home from Houston, and I was thrilled to be selected for 2020! In my brand ambassador welcome box, they included all kinds of goodies for me to play with.

You can watch the unboxing below.

If you can’t see the video above, click here to watch it on YouTube. I’ll be sharing a project made with some of the fabrics from this box in a few weeks. Until then, you can find out about the Peek Into Batiks Monthly Quilt Along here!

You know that as soon as I got the email invitation to be a brand ambassador, I was already thinking, “When do I get to visit?” (Yes, that’s how I roll. C’mon, they’re right here in New York City!) So, when Susan said she would be in town at the end of January, I took the opportunity to meet up.

I couldn’t believe how many times I had actually passed the building where the office is located without realizing. (It’s next to my favorite baking supply shop.)

Once I got upstairs, I was brought to the conference room to chat with Susan and Shari.

The conference room is filled with quilty and Minky goodness! It was a bit hard to stay focused because there was so much pretty…

…and so much cute to look at.

After our meeting, the ladies took me on a tour of the office. But first, Shari and I posed in front of this iconic quilt!

We passed this office and I immediately got a decorating idea. Perhaps I, too, can create some fabric walls in my office.

It turns out the office belongs to Michael, who I had the chance to meet a few minutes later. He was very down to earth and he let me look at some top secret fabrics that will not be available until the fall. I got to meet the team that works behind the scenes to get the designs for new fabrics and the color cards ready. There are a lot of really great fabric designs in the works, including one series that I’m pretty sure everyone reading this post will LOVE, but I had to turn my camera off since these fabrics aren’t yet available. (I know, I know. But trust me, it was all amazing!)

After that, we went to see the storage area and I was allowed to turn my camera back on. I got to see quilts that are used for display at events…

…a rainbow area of Cotton Couture fabrics…

…and other beauties arranged in bolts.

I had a lot of fun, but it was also great to meet the team. Everyone was really friendly and I appreciated that they were willing to take time out from their work days to talk with me so I could share with you. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I like to work with local companies but I also like to work with companies where the people are actually nice. With Michael Miller Fabrics, I get the best of both worlds. It doesn’t hurt that their fabrics are also wonderful to work with.

I hope you enjoyed this quick trip inside their offices! You can check out my brand ambassador intro interview here on the Michael Miller Fabrics blog.

  1. Thanks for taking us along on your tour! I don’t use fabric and had never heard of Michael Miller Fabrics, but it all looks gorgeous. Very cool that you’re local to them. I’m looking forward to seeing what you create!
