Sea Shells by the Shore Market Bag, free crochet pattern with video tutorial by Nana's Crafty Home for Underground Crafter | striped, lacy, and textured market bag flat lay on wood with sunglasses and sea shells

Hello all of you Underground Crafters!  I am so excited and honored to be here with you and to share this fantastic and fun to make Sea Shells Market Bag!

I really do love to design bags and it might just be because I love to accessorize outfits and bags are the perfect way to do that.

One of the first designs on my website was the Boho Market Bag which has been very popular. And since Caron Cotton Cakes came back into stock at Michael’s this spring I knew I had to design another bag!  This cotton blend yarn is really perfect for summer projects with fantastic stitch definition and lovely spring and summer colors!

Many of my designs focus on color and unique stitch combinations for texture with an emphasis on simplicity.  I want everyone to be able to make and love my patterns!

The unique puff stitch I used for this bag reminds me of sea shells.  Really unique and fun to make as they are worked over the previous double crochet made.  This creates a unique looking puff stitch.

This pattern disguises the color changes of the self-striping yarn really well but you could certainly make this in a solid color or change colors manually if desired.

I know there are a lot of visual learners and even those that don’t read written patterns so most of my patterns have a complete video tutorial provided.  I have created a complete video tutorial for this bag as well which you can find after the pattern.

The bag could easily be made larger by adding rounds of repeats — just go to the size desired!

I love to see what you make so please tag me with #nanascraftyhome or @nanascraftyhome so I can see your beautiful projects!

  2. It is so beautiful, Tonya! I bought one of the Caron Cotton Cakes in Rose Whisper and didn’t know what to make with it. The colors are very close to the ones you used and mine should look like pink Scallop shells on the sand just as yours does. I’ve been crocheting for less than a year, so your tutorial will be VERY helpful. Thank you for creating it!
btw, were you tempted to buy one of every color of the Caron Cotton Cakes as I was? They are such mellow color schemes. I loved all of them.

    • So glad you like the pattern Sherry — thank you! I think I stood in front of the Caron Cotton Cakes display for over 30 minutes trying to decide which colors I would take home! 😂. It was really hard to get down to a manageable number….I just love them! I love to hear from newer crocheters — let me know how the bag goes for you and if you have any questions let me know! 😊

  3. I followed Facebook to your page because I saw this bag in a different color scheme. I’d really love to know the color and yarn that the aqua and peach version is done in.
