In between
I am at that weird place in between projects and I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do next. The temperature finally cooled down and I finished the Bruges lace scarf I was making for my friend (more details coming on Friday).
I’ve made some progress on my Pineapple Doily Shawl since my last update, but I think I’m going to hibernate it until the fall.
I started making this along with my crochet class, and since we have the summer off, I will probably put it aside until the class starts again in September. I have two students who didn’t finish their shawls and still want to work on it, so it seems like a fun CAL for us to do in class.
As for my cabled beanie project, I decided that I really didn’t like any of the stitches I swatched.
I’ve been thinking of trying a stitch pattern from my newest cable book, Power Cables by Lily Chin.
And I’m still trying out different motifs for the bedspread I’m planning to make for my mom’s milestone birthday in February.
So as you can see, I don’t have anything that I’m really working on right now. I think the heat over the weekend and the humidity has also made me less interested in crocheting some big project. Hopefully, I’ll have something more to share next week.
I did manage to do a lot of reading over the weekend, and I finished The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood. (I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads, but didn’t write a review yet. I’m excited to hear there will be a third installment in this series.) MC and I saw an interesting show on H.G. Wells (part of the Prophets of Science Fiction series on the Science Channel), so I decided to pick up an H.G. Wells book next. I’ve already read The Time Machine
, The War of the Worlds
, and The Invisible Man
, so I borrowed The Country of the Blind, and Other Stories
from the New York Public Library. I’m looking forward to reading his short stories.

I hate that inbetween place. I always just want to be knitting knitting knitting. All of you photos look lovely!
Hahaha, Faith. I love being in the middle of a project, too.
Okay, I guess I’ll have to wait until fall to get my pineapple fix
Sorry to hear that you haven’t found the perfect motif for your Mom’s spread. Hopefully inspiration strikes soon!
I’m staying hopeful, Minding My Own Stitches.
I can imagine that purple star in a blanket, that would be lovely!
Thanks, Tanya. It is a pretty motif.
I am having problem with deciding what to do. But my issue is that I am stash busting and am determined to only use what I have. And the planning for the Ravellenic games.
I’m trying to stash bust, too, Wool Diaries. I’m also planning to participate in the Ravellenic Games.
Ooh, I like the star motif. Definitely looks promising for a blanket.
The weather here is more like waterproofs weather than anything else – not sure I can crochet myself a raincoat! Hope it gets more comfortable for you guys soon
Haha, Laura, maybe you can use upcycled plastic bag yarn to make a crocheted raincoat?
I have things I *want* to work on, it’s just the high heat we’ve been having has prevented me from wanting to touch just about anything. Thankfully it’s been so gloomy here that the temperature has dropped significantly.
It is definitely hard to crochet and knit when the temperatures are so high, Vanessa.
It seems like a lot of us are struggling with the weather and how it effects our projects. For your mom’s blanket are you trying to find one motif or a few of them that work well together? Let’s hope the weather breaks soon, then we’ll all be able to think clearly, and it’ll be easier to make decisions!
Robin, I’m trying to find one motif. I agree, when the weather breaks, things will clear up
.
That purple motif is really pretty and you shawl looks lovely
Hmm should I wish for trying the “in between projects thing” ? My body would propably say yes.
I keep finding new things I want to make and I have several W.I.P.’s going on at the moment. And I want to work on all of them at the same time. But then I don’t have a hot summer against me so it’s not too hot to knit or crochet. I just wish it would stop raining all the time.
Thanks, Ferretmania! I find that I tend to work on more projects, too, when it’s rainy.
