That also means it’s the first day of Crochetville’s 5th Annual National Crochet Month Blog Tour! This year’s tour features 80 crochet designers, and you can get the schedule and more information here. Now, here’s where things get interesting. The tour theme is “glamping,” which, if you don’t know, is the sum of glamorous + camping. My last camping experience was over 20 years ago, and it was not particularly glamorous, so I was really at a loss for choosing a project to fit the theme.

Then, a little light bulb went off. You may remember that last August, while I was at BlogHer’16, I had the chance to hang out in this retro recreational vehicle (courtesy of Go RVing).

#BlogHer16 recap on Underground Crafter - Retro RVIF I was to go camping again, and IF I were to take a glamorous approach to camping, I’d want to be traveling in retro style. Nothing says retro style to me like home cooked food (in the RV’s kitchenette) and awesome colors.

When I started thinking about awesome, retro colors, I remembered my visit to the funtastic Hoooked booth at Creativation in January. Hoooked is a yarn company from the Netherlands that specializes in using upcycled materials to create vibrant yarns.

I came away from my visit to their amigurumi-filled booth with a sample of their signature t-shirt yarn, Zpagetti, and a smooth, bamboo crochet hook.Once I had the vibrant retro color in mind, I had to figure out how to incorporate the home cooked meal. (Remember, I’m going for retro style here!) And, that’s how I decided to design the Glamping Trivet. The t-shirt yarn has a heavier weight that most cotton, so it feels substantial underneath a pot. The high cotton content makes it safe for kitchen use, too.

Add a touch of color to your kitchen with this trivet. Made with a super bulky, upcycled cotton t-shirt yarn, this trivet works up quickly and maintains its shape with washing.

Finished Size

  • Motif: 6” (15 cm) square.

Materials

  • Hoooked Zpagetti (Baby Cone) yarn (92% recycled cotton/8% other recycled fibers, 6 oz/170 g/27.25 yd/25 m) – 1 skein, or approximately 18 yd (16.5 m) in any super bulky weight yarn. NOTE: If you plan to use this as a trivet, I recommend a yarn with at least 90% cotton content to prevent melting.
  • US Size N-15/10 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
