Crochet Pattern: Handy Scarf

Today’s pattern is part of the Crochet Charity Drive with Blackstone Designs. The theme was mittens but I wanted to do something a little bit different, so I made a cozy keyhole scarf with two mock mittens at the end. This is a fun project for teens or adults and it works up quickly because you hold two strands of yarn together throughout. I even made a short video (at the end of the pattern) that shows you how to wrap the scarf so your mittens hang down in the front.

You’ll start off your Handy Scarf by making two Mitten Edges. I used red and white because I love the contrast (and also because those colors are so popular together from early December through Valentine’s Day in February).

Once you have your Mitten Edges ready, you’ll crochet the main part of the scarf, ending with a keyhole opening where your mittens can slip through. Then, you’ll join your scarf to the Mitten Edges and you’re ready to wear it!

This cozy scarf could be donated to any local charity that distributes handmade winter accessories for teens or adults. If you plan to donate your version, be sure to check with the organization first to see if there are any yarn colors you should use or avoid. Luckily, there are over 140 color options in Red Heart Super Saver, so you’re sure to find something you love (which also meets the organization’s color requirements).
