Back in May, Wool and the Gang sent me some Shiny Happy Cotton, a luxuriously soft Pima cotton yarn. Crocheting with it is like spending the day lounging on a very soft t-shirt sheet, if you know what I mean.
Coasters, hot pads, and scrubbies are my go-to projects for cotton yarn, and I did in fact transform some of this into the Little Dots Coaster. (You can get the free crochet pattern over on CrochetN’Crafts, where I’m guest posting today.)
I was immediately drawn to the colors, but, once I had a taste for Shiny Happy Cotton, I knew I wanted to wear it. Now, we have entered the dog days of summer in New York City, and you would think that designing an infinity scarf to crochet is the furthest thing from my mind. But then, there’s the problem of air conditioning. Whenever I head out on the subway or spend the day working in an office, I’m actually quite chilly. The Little Dots, Big Dots Infinity Scarf is the perfect neck warmer for the summer because it’s made with a soft and breathable cotton. I know I’ll be able to wear it through the fall and during the spring (and even on the not-too-cold days of winter), too.
I made the scarf a companion piece to the Little Dots Coaster, starting with the same Motif Center. And, because I didn’t want to waste a single bit of this yarn, I also used it for the Layered Button Cuff pattern.

Infinity Scarf to Crochet Pattern by Underground Crafter
Simple circle-in-a-square motifs are connected with the join-as-you-go method to create a bold infinity scarf to brighten your day.
Finished Size
- Adult: 4.25” (11 cm) width x 56” (142 cm) circumference.
Materials
- Wool and the Gang Shiny Happy Cotton yarn (100% Pima Cotton, 3.5 oz/100 g/155 yd/142 m) – 1 skein ea in Out of Space Dyed – 101 Spots (CA) and Pink Lemonade (CB), or approximately 132 yd (121 m) in CA and 162 yd (148 m) in CB in any medium weight cotton yarn.
- US Size H-8/5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
- Yarn needle.
Gauge
- Motif through Round 4 = 4” (10 cm) in pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this pattern.
Abbreviations Used in This Pattern
- CA – Color A
- CB – Color B
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- sc – single crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- sp – space
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- * Repeat the instructions following the asterisk as indicated.
- () Instructions within parenthesis are worked into indicated stitch or space.

Pattern Notes
- Ch 1 at beginning of Rnd does NOT count as a stitch.
- Motifs are seamed using the join-as-you-go method. A helpful video tutorial is available below.

Pattern Instructions
Infinity Scarf
Motif Center – Make 7 each in CA and CB
- Ch 4, skip 3 ch, join with sl st to next ch to form ring.
- Round 1: Ch 1, 12 dc in ring, join with sl st to first dc. (12 sts)
- Round 2: Ch 1, 2 dc in each st around, join with sl st to first dc. (24 sts)
- Round 3: Ch 1, starting in same st, [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] around, join with sl st to first dc. Fasten off. (36 sts)
Motif 1 Final Round
- Join CB with sl st to any st on CA Motif Center.
- Round 4: Ch 1, sc in same st and next st, [*ch 1, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, dc in next st, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st,** sc in next 2 sts] 3 times; repeat from * to ** once, join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off CB. (40 sts + 8 ch-1 sp)
Motif 2 Final Round
- Join CA with sl st to any st on CB Motif Center.
- Round 4: Ch 1, sc in same st and next st, ch 1, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, dc in next st, (2 dc, join with sc to center ch-1 sp of next adjacent Motif, 2 dc) in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, join with sc to center ch-1 sp of next adjacent Motif, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, dc in next st, (2 dc, join with sc to corner ch-1 sp of next adjacent Motif, 2 dc) in next st, [*dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, ch 1, sc in next 2 sts, hdc** in next st, dc in next st, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st] twice; repeat from * to ** once, join with sl st to first sc. - Repeat joining as for Motif 2, alternating colors with each Motif.

Border
- Border Round 1: Join CB with sl st to any ch-1 sp on edge of scarf, ch 1, sc in same st and in eacj st and ch-1 sp around, join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off CB.
- Border Round 2: Rep Border Round 1 on opposite side of infinity scarf.
Finishing
- With yarn needle, weave in ends.
I feel the same way about air conditioning – Can’t live without it, but can’t live comfortably in it, either. 😉 Cotton is a smart idea!
