Crochet Pattern: True Blue Slouchy Beanie

Free crochet pattern: True Blue Slouchy Beanie, free crochet pattern in 10 sizes in Lion Brand Jeans yarn by Underground CrafterI’ve been on a slouchy beanie kick of late. (I guess I’m excited about the return of fall!) My latest addition is the free crochet pattern for the True Blue Slouchy Beanie in 10 sizes. This ombré slouchy beanie works up quickly as you hold two strands of yarn together throughout.

Recently, I learned about Lion Brand’s #HatNotHate campaign to increase awareness of school bullying. They are collecting 1,500 hats by September 24, 2018 to support a local school for World Day of Bullying Prevention. (If you’d like to send a hat, you can find out more here.) Blue is the color for this campaign to increase awareness and provide solidarity to students. I had so much fun crocheting with Lion Brand Jeans when I was designing the Phoenix Wrap, so I thought it would be the perfect yarn for a blue hat. I picked the name True Blue because it means that someone is very loyal. A true, loyal friend would never bully you, so True Blue seemed just right.

Free crochet pattern: True Blue Slouchy Beanie, free crochet pattern in 10 sizes in Lion Brand Jeans yarn by Underground CrafterI wanted to design something that would work up quickly. Sometimes, I need the satisfaction of a fast project! I used two strands of yarn in two colors of Lion Brand Jeans to create an ombré effect.

Free crochet pattern: True Blue Slouchy Beanie, free crochet pattern in 10 sizes in Lion Brand Jeans yarn by Underground CrafterI wanted the hat to be textured, but not too complicated, so I chose simple stitches.

Change it up by making more (or fewer) stripes, or by changing the order of the stripes.
