Mélange Blanket Square 4: Tilda Wheel Square

Our fourth square is the Tilda Wheel Square by Pink Mambo (also known as Gourmet Crochet). You can find Carolyn online at Etsy | Instagram | LoveCrafts | Ravelry
You can see Carolyn’s version below. She used three colors in King Cole Fashion Aran yarn.

I am using King Cole Big Value Aran (available through your local yarn shop or online at LoveCrafts or Wool Warehouse UK) and my Denise US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook for my blanket. This makes it easier to keep consistent gauge across all my squares.
For my version of the Tilda Wheel Square, I used Berry as Color A, Nougat as Color B, and Ocean for Color C. My square was closer to 5.5″ (14 cm) after Round 8, so I joined Nougat with a single crochet to the stitch after a chain-2 space. To keep the stitch count the same, I worked 1 single crochet into each single crochet in Round 8, and (chain 2, skip chain-2 space) in each corner. I finished by joining with a slip stitch to the first single crochet. I lightly spray blocked the square but it wasn’t absolutely necessary. (If you’re new to blocking, check out Blocking Basics for Crocheters and Knitters.)
I found this pattern straightforward and easy to follow. The Tilda Square is a pretty a “mindless” or relaxing square that you can do while watching tv or waiting in line – but don’t forget that you are turning to the wrong side for some rows. If you’re using a dark yarn or are crocheting in less-than-perfect lighting conditions, you may want to consider putting a stitch marker on the right side so you know which side is which.
