Mélange Blanket Square 22: Catherine’s Square

Our twenty-second square pattern is Catherine’s Square by Fosbas Designs. You can find Susanna online at Etsy | Facebook | Instagram | Ravelry
You can see Susanna’s version in two colors below.

I used King Cole Big Value Aran (available through your local yarn shop or online at LoveCrafts or Wool Warehouse UK) for my square, along with my Denise US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook.
Initially, I tried using a smaller hook for Susanna’s square, because I couldn’t get her gauge. But, eventually, I decided to keep the same hook, but reduce the foundation chain by 10 stitches (staring with 17 chains). I used Nougat for Color A and Ocean for Color B, and followed the pattern through Row 8. Then I fastened off the colors and used Berry to start the Edging. For Round 1, I evenly worked 17 single crochet on each side, plus the 4 chain-2 spaces. I worked Round 2 as written. At the end of Round 2, my square was only about 5.5″ (14 cm), so I worked another Edging Round where I worked a single crochet into each single crochet, and chained 2 and skipped the chain-2 spaces at the corners. I then wet blocked the square. (If you’re new to blocking, check out Blocking Basics for Crocheters and Knitters.)
