Mélange Blanket Square 23: Melange Square
Our twenty-third square pattern is the Melange Square by Sunflower Cottage Crochet. You can find Helen online at Etsy | Facebook | Instagram | Ravelry
You can see Helen’s version in one color below.
I used King Cole Big Value Aran (available through your local yarn shop or online at LoveCrafts or Wool Warehouse UK) for my square, along with my Denise US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook, to keep my tension and gauge similar across squares by different designers.
For my first, I started with 3 chains (the second option for Round 1) and worked Rounds 1-3 in Nougat, changing to Ocean with the joining slip stitch at the end of Round 3. I used Ocean for Rounds 4-5. I joined Berry in a corner chain-2 space and then followed the instructions for Round 6 starting at the first chain-2 space. At the end of Round 6, my square was already about 5.5″ (14 cm), so I changed Round 7 by starting with a chain 1 and single crochet in the same stitch, and then substituting a single crochet for each half double crochet in the pattern. I then spray blocked the square. (If you’re new to blocking, check out Blocking Basics for Crocheters and Knitters.)
