Mélange Blanket Square 29: Segment Granny Square
Our twenty-ninth square pattern is the Segment Granny Square by Off the Hook for You. You can find Vicki online at Etsy | Facebook | Instagram | LoveCrafts | Pinterest | Ravelry
You can see Vicki’s versions in three colors below.
I used King Cole Big Value Aran (available through your local yarn shop or online at LoveCrafts or Wool Warehouse UK) for my square, along with my Denise US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook, to keep my tension and gauge similar across squares by different designers.
I followed the US abbreviations version of the pattern to make this square. Vicki also has the pattern available using UK abbreviations. For my version, I used Ocean as Color A, Berry as Color B, and Nougat as Color C and followed the pattern through Round 7. At that point, my square measured approximately 5.5″ (14 cm) at the widest part of the square. I continued in Nougat and worked my own Round 8 as follows:
Chain 1, single crochet in same stitch and each of the next 15 stitches, half double crochet in the next 2 stitches, [*chain 2, skip chain-2 space, half double crochet in the next 2 stitches,** single crochet in the next 17 stitches, half double crochet in the next 2 stitches] 3 times, repeat from * to **, single crochet in the next stitch, join with a slip stitch, fasten off Color C.
After this, my square was the perfect size and I spray blocked it. (If you’re new to blocking, check out Blocking Basics for Crocheters and Knitters.)
