If you’re like most beginner sewists (and, let’s face it: like many experienced sewists!), you struggle to sew (or quilt) perfect circles. There is a wonderful tool — a circular attachment for the sewing machine — that makes it possible to crank out beautiful circles in different sizes very easily. You can use the circular attachment to:

  • Easily attach circular appliques to your project,
  • Stitch together circular pieces of fabric,
  • Quilt perfect circles,
  • Create a circular “outline” in stitches for a hoop art project
  • Make decorative circles sewn with yarn, thread, cord, or braiding onto fabric, and
  • Whatever fun circular sewing projects you can think of!

Are you new to circular attachments for the sewing machine, or not sure if getting one is right for you? Not to worry! I’m sharing how to use the circular attachment for the sewing machine with a video tutorial. In this post, I’m using the Baby Lock Brilliant and the Baby Lock Circular Sewing Attachment (Model # BL-CSA). (You can check out my unboxing of the Baby Lock Brilliant HERE on YouTube.)

Don’t forget to use my affiliate link with coupon code SAVE10-A424 to get 10% off all machines, accessories and software at Baby Lock. You can use any machine that has a threaded hole on the right side of the needle plate (including my original model the Quilter’s Choice and, of course, the Brilliant) with the Circular Sewing Attachment.

What’s inside the Circular Sewing Attachment box?

Inside the box, you’ll find (shown at left) an instruction and reference guide and (shown at right from the top down) the circular sewing attachment, a braiding foot, a cording foot, two screws (one is a spare), a pivot pin, and a template.

What else do you need to use the Circular Sewing Attachment?

To attach the Circular Sewing Attachment to your machine, you’ll also need the disc screwdriver that came with your sewing machine (and is likely hiding in your on-machine storage unit)…

…and a piece of fabric, appropriate thread for your fabric in the top spool and bobbin, and a piece of stabilizer cut slightly larger than your fabric. Follow the instructions on your stabilizer package to determine how to affix the stabilizer to the fabric.
