Sierra Crochet Scarf Pattern

Since I’ve moved to Vermont, I’ve been wearing scarves for a greater percentage of the year, and I’ve also been wearing more scarves during the day since I’m often moving between buildings while at work. The Sierra Scarf is my latest free crochet scarf pattern, and I can’t wait to wear it! It’s lightly textured with puff stitches and extra long to provide more styling options. I’ve included a video tutorial for the 5-repeat puff stitch, too, if you’re a puff-stitch newbie.

I mentioned when I shared the Xiomara Slouchy Beanie pattern that the folks at KnitPal had sent me yarns to try out. For this pattern, I used a 3-pack of Painted Wool yarn in Floating Fireflies. Painted Wool is a light (#3/DK) weight acrylic and wool blend yarn in speckled colorways. Each skein includes 100 grams (3.5 ounces) and 251 yards (230 meters) of yarn, and you can buy it on Amazon in packs of three skeins. I thought the gentle pops of color from the speckling would be very pretty but also make a scarf that could match with a lot of different outfits I might wear.

I wanted this scarf to be a bit longer than the traditional 60″ (152.5 cm)/5 foot scarves because I wanted to have a few different ways to wear it depending on the weather outside and what I might be doing during the day.

I also wanted to make a stitch pattern that was subtle but also interesting. I choose the puff stitch because it looks great on both sides.
