Luisa Top-Down Granny Stitch Hat Pattern

I’m excited to share a top-down granny stitch hat pattern in 3 sizes today. The Luisa Top-Down Granny Stitch Hat pattern is worked in the round, starting with a solid stitch pattern to keep the crown warm and then opening up to airy granny stitches at the sides, making it perfect for transitional weather.

Scroll down for the Luisa Top-Down Granny Stitch Hat pattern. As I was preparing for Third Edition of Granny Square Month, I thought about something I could easily vary with granny stitches or squares. The idea to make several hat patterns came to me, and Luisa is the first one I’m sharing!

This is a straightforward design, worked from the crown to the hat band. Although I’ve never been much of a hat person, since I’ve moved to Burlington, I’ve started to appreciate them more. First of all, it often gets chilly after the sun goes down but carrying around a sweater all day isn’t always practical. Bringing a hat along for the ride seems much more manageable.

I’ve definitely seen more folks wearing crocheted hats in Burlington, too, which is inspiring. I mean, all of these other crochet hat wearers can’t be wrong!

Luisa is not quite slouchy, but there’s some ease between the crown and the hat band. It’s perfect for piling your hair underneath!
