I love making a quick, easy crochet scarf as much as the next person, but I get bored working 60 inches in the same stitch. The Ethan Scarf keeps things just interesting enough without making it too challenging for beginners or to hard to crochet while watching your favorite streaming show or waiting on line.

Quick, Easy Crochet Scarf Pattern by Underground Crafter


This quick, easy crochet scarf pattern is made with less than two skeins of yarn. The simple combination of lemon peel stitch and crochet mesh is beginner friendly while also keeping the project interesting. This is the final pattern in the eleventh annual Holiday Stashdown Crochet Along with CAL Central Crochet.
Finished Size
- Teen/Adult: 7.75” (19.5 cm) wide x 60” (152.5 cm) long.
Materials
- Big Twist Ombre Value yarn (100% acrylic, 4.3 oz/121 g, 269 yd/246 m) – 2 skeins in 0113062809 Aqua Ombre, or approximately 525 yd (480 m) in any medium weight yarn.
- US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook, or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.
- Yarn needle.
Gauge
- 14 sts = 4” (10 cm) across in pattern. For best fit, always check your gauge.
Abbreviations Used in This Pattern
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- pf – 3-repeat puff stitch – [Yo, insert hook into st, yo and draw up a loop] 3 times in same st, yo and draw through all 7 loops on hook. A helpful video tutorial for this stitch is available below.

- sc – single crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- sp – space

Pattern Notes
- Ch 1 at start of Rows and Round, and sl st at end of Round do not count as stitches.

Pattern Instructions
Scarf
- Ch 26 (or any even number of ch).
- Row 1: Turn, skip 1 ch, sc in next 25 ch. (25 sts)
- The stitch combination in Rows 2-3 is usually called the lemon peel stitch, pebble stitch, or crinkle stitch. A helpful video tutorial is available below.

- Row 2: Turn, ch 1, dc in first st, [sc in next st, dc in next st] across.
- Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st, [dc in next sc, sc in next dc] across.
- Rows 4-11: Rep Rows 2-3, 4 times.
- Row 12: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and each st across.
- Row 13: Turn, ch 1, dc in first st, [ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next st] across.
- Row 14: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st, [sc in ch-1 sp, sc in next st] across.
- Row 15: Rep Row 12 once.
- Row 16: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st, [pf in next st, sc in next st] across.
- Rows 17-19: Rep Rows 12-14 once.
- Rep Rows 2-19, 8x or until scarf measures approximately 56” (142 cm) long (or approximately 4”/10 cm shorter than desired finished length).
- Rep Rows 2-12 once.
Border
- Round 1: (Right Side) Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and each st across, turn to work along long edge (see Pattern Notes), ch 1, sc in side of same row and each of next 11 rows, *[2 sc in next row, sc in side of next 4 rows, sc in side of next row,** sc in side of next 12 rows] across, ending last rep at ** before final set of Rows, sc in side of next 10 rows, 2 sc in side of next row, turn to work along foundation chain, ch 1, sc in next 25 sts, turn to work along long edge, ch 1, rep from +[2 sc in next row, sc in side of next 4 rows, sc in side of next row, sc in side of next 12 rows] across, ch 1, join with sl st to first sc.
- With yarn needle, weave in all ends on Wrong Side.
