Wide Crochet Scarf Pattern: Oakley Scarf

I’m sharing a wide crochet scarf pattern I originally designed as a premium pattern. Now it’s available for free on the blog! The Oakley Scarf has a gentle drape even with the textured stitches. It has a classic look and works well for multiple genders as well as for teens and adults.

Years ago when I lived in New York City, Lion Brand had a retail shop there. There was a set of yarns sold exclusively in the store called the LB Collection. The shop has since closed but now you can get the LB Collection yarns online. This wide crochet scarf pattern is made with one such yarn, LB Collection Superwash Merino.

Superwash Merino is a light (#3/DK) weight yarn and it has excellent drape. That and the stitch combination is what makes this pattern so soft and squishy even with all the bobbles and post stitches.

When I designed this pattern, I was just starting to self-publish and I was learning about “all the things” — how to write patterns, photograph samples, and everything associated with marketing and the business aspect of being a crochet designer. I went through a stage where I worked with local students as models, and the best pictures of this scarf are from those sessions.
