The first little fellow is an expressive new friend. His expressive eyes are slightly sculpted. His body is made all in one piece, and his traditional sharp quills have been replaced by the ultra-soft Red Heart Hygge yarn, making him the perfect cuddle buddy.

Finished Size

  • 6.5” tall x 4.5” wide x 4.5” deep when made with worsted weight yarn

Materials

  • Red Heart Soft worsted weight yarn, 100% acrylic, 256 yds / 5 oz / 141 g, 1 ball #7933 Wheat (MC), < 1 ball (20 yds) #E728 Cocoa (CA).
  • Red Heart Hygge bulky yarn, 70% acrylic, 30% nylon, 132 yds / 5 oz / 141 g, 1 ball #E869 Latte (CB).
  • G (4.25 mm) crochet hook
  • Two 15 mm brown safety eyes
  • Fairfield Poly-Fil stuffing
  • Tapestry needle
  • Straight pins
  • Stitch markers (if desired)

Gauge

  • Gauge is not important for amigurumi. Be sure to use the same hook throughout to ensure proportional size.

  • Stuff tip of snout. Stuff remainder of face before fully attaching to body.
  • Attach face to body between the center point of the belly and the color change on Round 12. At widest point, face will reach Round 11 (one round from the color change) on the sides. Sew top edge of face along color change in Round 12.
  • Sculpting eyes: With scrap yarn in MC, thread yarn through edge of face, up next to inside edge of eye, down through adjacent stitch also hidden by edge of eye, up next to inside edge of other eye, down through adjacent stitch also hidden by edge of eye, up through the other side of the face. Pull yarn to gently pinch eye together. Bind off and weave in ends.

Ears

  • (Make 2)
  • With MC, ch 4.
  • Row 1: (Ch 3 counts as dc) 5 dc in 4th ch from hook. Turn. (6)
  • Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as dc), dc in same st, [2 dc in next st] 5 times. (12)
  • Bind off and leave long tail for sewing.
  • Fold ear in half. Using tail, sew edges together along first and last stitch of both rows, creating a cone. Do not bind off, leave long tail for sewing.
  • Attach ears to body in a straight line along ear seam between Rounds 12 and 14, aligned with eyes, 12 stitches apart. Front edge of ear will be in line with color/yarn change.
  • Weave in ends.

Nose

  • With CA, ch 2.
  • Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)
  • Rnd 2: Inc 6 times. (12)
  • Rnd 3: Sc evenly around.
  • Rnd 4: Dec 6 times. (6)
  • Bind off leaving long tail for sewing.
  • Stuff.
  • Sew to top of nose between Round 2 and 5, on top of snout, positioned evenly between the eyes. Weave in ends.

Feet (Make 4)

  • With MC, ch 2.
  • Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)
  • Rnd 2: Inc 6 times. (12)
  • Rnd 3: [sc, inc] 6 times. (18)
  • Rnd 4: [bobble st (see Pattern Stitches), sc] 4 times, 10 sc. (18)
  • Rnd 5: [sc, dec] 6 times. (12)
  • Rnd 6: Sc evenly around. (12)
  • Bind off leaving long tail for sewing.
  • Stuff.
  • Using straight pins, pin a square for each foot. Make squares 3 sts x 3 sts. Position front feet with top edge in line with lowest point of face. Position back feet with outside bottom corner touching the color/yarn change.
  • Sew each foot with toes facing up around the 12 stitches of each pinned square.
