Crochet Pattern: Coastal Redwood Super Scarf

Free crochet pattern: Coastal Redwood Super Scarf in Lion Brand Heartland Thick & Quick by Underground Crafter | My inspiration for this super scarf pattern was the redwood, a species of super tall and long-lived tress that thrive in the Northern Coast of California. Like its namesake tree, this scarf is ultra long and will definitely be noticed. This luxuriously long scarf has a gentle, unisex texture made with a beginner-friendly stitch pattern.

I’ll admit it: when I first heard about super scarves, I wasn’t convinced they would really be “a thing.”

I should mention that I first heard about super scarves during this past summer, which felt very long and hot due to our lack of air conditioning.

It’s a bit hard to think about the cold air of winter when you are a puddle on the couch, the cats are laying flat on the wood floor instead of cuddling, and your dreams are only of melting.

First off, the long scarves give you more styling options. Second, they are bold and really show off your handmade skills. Third, they are great projects to work on while watching streaming shows and movies because you can just go and go and go and not worry about taking measurements until the show/movie is over. (I was watching Bosch Season 2 during this scarf. If you’d like to check it out, try Amazon Prime free for 30 days.)

I was inspired by the rich red of the Lion Brand Heartland Thick & Quick in Redwood to name my design after the redwood, a species of super tall and long-lived tress that thrive in the Northern Coast of California. Like its namesake tree, this scarf is ultra long and will definitely be noticed. I used a very simple stitch pattern that is perfect for a beginner or for distracted crocheting (also known as “tv crocheting”) for a more advanced stitcher. I am indebted to the folks at I Like Crochet (where this pattern was originally published) for taking beautiful pictures that really show off the yarn.

The Coastal Redwood Super Scarf would make an amazing gift for anyone who lives in any place that gets chilly. (That maybe includes you! Most crocheters don’t make enough projects for themselves in my humble opinion.)

  1. Thank you for sharing this pattern, as a beginning crocheter who learned from YouTube videos, I think I can manage this scarf. 🙂

  2. Hi, Maria: Thank you so much for this pattern, it’s great, I love it, I want it and I must crochet it asap! 😉
I’ve always loved super scarves and never left making simple or chevron ones but with DK yarns. After seeing yours I’m going out right now to buy the chunky yarn, I’m sure it’ll be made in no time! I’ll show how it comes out if I manage to get a photo into the computer -that’s the difficult thing for me as I learnt crocheting and knitting before starting school, Lol-
